Weeds Season 5 Begins June 8th
June 1st, 2009 by RickThe Showtime show, Weeds is back for it’s fifth season, starting Monday, June 8th @ 10pm PT/ET. The first episode is entitled, Wonderful Wonderful.
Judging from the trailer it looks like Nancy is not killed, despite her narcing on the organization she had entangled herself with. Andy, Doug, Silus and Shane seem to be bound for a wacky wilderness experience as they decide to grow pot at a National Park. Celia is kidnapped but nobody seems to want to pay a ransom — yet let alone acknowledge her existence.
Alanis Moressette is casted as Nancy’s Obstetrician — sure to bring some comedy relief to the serious situation that has seemingly spiraled out of control. One wonders whether Esteban’s concern for the baby is for his future legacy or if he truly cares for Nancy, even after her snitching.
Showtime’s Weeds Season Five Airs this June
May 14th, 2009 by RickFor all those fans of the show Weeds on Showtime, Mary Louise Parker may have a little bit of competition when Alanis Morissette joins the cast in the last seven episodes as an obstetrician. Especially when it’s rumored that she may do a nude scene, in her pursuit of Nancy’s (Mary Louise Parker) brother Andy (Justin Kirk).
The previous season four ended with Nancy, the drug dealing mom, announcing that she was pregnant. The presumed father is Esteben, (Damián Bechir) the Mayor of a Mexican town that also happened to run a criminal syndicate that Nancy was connected to and so happened to turn in to the DEA.
With revenge driven DEA agents coming down hard on her and her betrayal to Esteban looming in the air, the season opener is sure to finally satisfy the questions that are burning in the minds of the fans. The first episode of season five airs Monday, June 8th @ 10pm PT/ET.
Play: The Caitlin County Hemp Wars
April 29th, 2009 by JosephHemp is what America was founded on.
And in these dire times for farmers and the rest of the American population suffering through economic hardship, it is about time we produce what we are arguably best at — behold, great American theater.
The Caitlin County Hemp Wars is a story about a three-generation family that grows industrial hemp in a desperate effort to save their farm. Think Oklahoma! meets Fiddler on the Roof in this “roots” driven musical about community and family that drives home a very important point. The tide is turning; the collective conscious of America is quickly coming to a consensus that old, ridiculous, harmful legal restrictions on non-psychoactive hemp is no small matter.
Playwrights Terry Crystal and Don DiVecchio probably didn’t have to look hard for inspiration, but the production is the result of five-years-in-the-making effort culminating in what may be the next great piece of Americana.
The Caitlin County Hemp Wars will premiere Tuesday, May 5th at 7:30pm @ the Zero Arrow Theatre in Harvard Square.

The Clinic, New Web Show About Dispensaries
April 16th, 2009 by ErinThe Clinic — and it only took 30 seconds of this trailer to get me into it. As a MMJ patient in the state of California, I’ve been to countless dispensaries and have always wondered what it would be like to work in one. Although The Clinic is what you would call a “mockumentary,” it provides some real insights while simultaneously entertaining the hell out of you.
With all the discussion of the reformation of marijuana laws across the country, the timing of this show is perfect. Creator Danny Lee knows his market:
It’s estimated, roughly 20 million Americans age 12 or older use marijuana at least once in the month. That’s a big built-in audience that could be interested in our show.
He is absolutely right. Stoners are naturally drawn to pot-influenced comedy, just like sports fanatics will follow sports and musicians will watch MTV, Vh1, or Fuse. Not only that, but most of The Clinic’s potential audience will not be medical marijuana patients and those will be even more intrigued to see what goes on inside those secret clubs.
So if you’re a fan of “The Office”–esque humor, The Clinic is right up your alley. I’m sure we will see nothing but good things to come.
