Daycare Center Also Secret Stash House
June 30th, 2009 by Rick
The Special Moments Daycare Center in East Flatbush was the scene of an attempted robbery on Friday, around twenty minutes after noon. Three suspects busted into the building where napping kids had been dreaming in quiet slumber. After responding via a 911 call, cops arrived at the scene and shot one suspect, 32-year-old Brooklyn native, Gavin Nugent, when he raised his loaded 9mm pistol at them.
After being admitted into the Kings County Hospital Center for gunshot wounds to the torso and wrist, Nugent was charged with burglary, robbery and weapons possession along with his two other accomplices, 35-year-old Dwayne Jackson and 39-year-old Carl Grierson. The reason for the attempted break-in wasn’t apparent until one of them told the police just why exactly they were trying to rob a daycare center.
Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly commented:
It now appears the day care center was a drug haven, or where drugs in significant quantities were kept, primarily marijuana. [...] Marijuana was located at the scene, along with at least $100,000 in cash. It appears to be what the robbers were looking for.
Police then arrested 37-year old Donna Rogers, the operator of the daycare center, and her husband, 36-year-old Sherwin Rogers and charged them with possession of marijuana. Not sure what to say about this one, other than kids & drugs generally don’t mix. Now go do some coloring.
Medical Marijuana Patient Robbed Twice
May 29th, 2009 by RickMark Spohn, a medical marijuana patient in Seattle had his home invaded by some men, pretending to be FBI agents. After they told him to get down on the floor, the proceeded to rob him of his medical marijuana.
To make matters worse, when the Seattle police arrived there they learned that there were entirely too many plants at the residence, so they robbed confiscated dozens of the plants. Under the Washington medical marijuana law, patients are allowed to have 15 plants and 24 ounces.
Spohn informed the police that several patients were growing their medical marijuana there as well, but the police merely stated that they were enforcing the law. Detectives declined to speak on camera, but neighbors had said that the home had been subjected to attemptedĀ break-ins before.
As the Seattle police carried out the medical marijuana, the actual FBI arrived on the scene and began looking into the home invasion and a possible impersonation of a federal officer.
Under the terms of the Washington law, patients that qualify for medical marijuana have either a terminal illness or a debilitating condition. Spohn is devastated and from this point on, doesn’t know what he will do.
MMJ Thieves a Growing Problem

Forgive the pun.
But seriously, recent waves of medical marijuana thievery all over the country are putting law enforcement in a new position of trying to protect someone who has an MMJ grow operation. The Colorado grower from this particular Fox News story said his home was broken into three times in 24 hours.
It’s gotten so bad he had to shut down his facility, because patients could no longer come by and use medicine without the fear of being robbed and/or attacked.
Shooting and Robbery @ La Brea Collective, LA
October 3rd, 2008 by Perry
This is really bad news.
Some low-life garbage shot and killed a security guard during a botched robbery at the La Brea Collective, a medical marijuana dispensary in Los Angeles, CA. One suspect remains at large but hopefully the other two captured assailants are receiving karmatic justice via repeated prison rapes.
A violent crime at a dispensary goes a long way to justifying a lot of the fears that people have about opening their neighborhood and thus is the worst kind of violent crime you can commit. I didn’t however notice any mention of items being stolen in the police report, which is unusual in a robbery.
Could it be that the cops have a hidden agenda and are lying about the motive to make a fight appear like a robbery violence brought on by the presence of marijuana in a neighborhood they patrol? Or maybe I just watch too many cop shows. Either way, I’m keeping an eye out.
