According to a San Antonio news service, a Bexar County attorney was arrested for trying to bring two ounces of weed and a chrome pipe into the county courthouse. The attorney, Regina Criswell, said that the weed was for a client of hers.

While attorneys should generally be used to the plodding nature of court trials, one can see how some well-timed ganja could really perk up an otherwise dreary day in court. Few things are more likely to ensure that jurors pay attention to a diatribe on DNA evidence than a nice attention-intensive high.

Local Deputy and cartoon villain Ino Badillo added:

It doesn’t matter who you are. You can’t be in possession of narcotics. Period.

Well, unless you’re a prescription-toting MD, Washington DC mayor, or fun-loving DEA agent, that is.

Memphis Grizzlies forward Darius Miles was arrested around 10:20pm Wednesday night in St. Louis after he turned without using a turn signal and officers discovered that he had a suspended license. After the vehicle had been towed, less than 2.5 grams of marijuana were found in his 1996 Chevrolet Impala. Yes, less than an eighth.

Miles was free on a $100 bond on Thursday. The 27-year old was suspended without pay for 10 games while playing for the Boston Celtics last season after violating the NBA’s anti-drug program.

• 34-year-old, Joshua Lee Colvin of Kansas City, MO, was arrested and charged with possession and intent to distribute, after he accepted a package from California containing fourteen pounds of marijuana.

• 21-year-old Jervious O. Robinson and 22-year-old Antwoine M. Gilchrist of Fort Pierce, IN, were arrested and charged with felony drug charges when an undercover operation uncovered 70 small bags of pot in their home.

• 20-year-old, Cornell L. Benison from Canton, OH, was arrested and charged with endangering children, marijuana trafficking and possession when police found almost a dozen bags of pot and two infants in his motel room.

• 48-year-old, Ramon Pineda of Holyoke, MA, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to distribute.

• A 37-year-old Afghan was sentenced to life, for his role in a major drug ring operating in Iran, Oman and the UAE.

Hector Soto-Hernandez, 39, of Douglas, AZ, was arrested and charged with possession and transportation of marijuana Saturday morning.

More than 1,000 pounds were discovered in a false compartment within the flatbed trailer he was hauling with his truck. The truck had a suspended license plate, which inevitably led to full control by an Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer, and the flatbed searched by a drug sniffing dog.

A drug dealer already behind bars, Patrick Albert Byers Jr, convicted for ordering the contract killing of a murder witness, was spared the death penalty and given four consecutive life sentences.

Maylasian Police Recover Millions in Methamphetamines

Early Sunday, Malaysian police discovered 900 kilograms of methamphetamines in 10 large bins in the central of state of Pahang, a haul worth millions.

A 21-year old man was pulled over last Friday for running a red light in Naples, Florida. When the officer came up to the driver’s door, he noticed that the suspect was eating something and had what appeared to be weed, on his clothes. The officer pulled the suspect out of the car and found that the suspect was eating his marijuana stash.

The suspect, Carlos Mauricio Rodriguez, was then charged with marijuana possession and tampering with evidence. All together, 6.87 grams were recovered.

How can you be charged for tampering with something that you own before it becomes evidence? Odd.

In more unsettling news, two vacationing Canadian kindergarten teachers, aged 31 and 30, were arrested in Indonesia back in February for marijuana possession after being followed by the police for several days. At the time of their arrest at their hotel they were allegedly smoking a marijuana joint and had 3.6 grams on them. Both face up to four years of prison in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Indonesia, actual criminal elements are moving literally tons of drugs in and out of the country. And you thought the laws were strict in the United States? You amuse me.

The more and more we learn about Obama, the more he seems to be like one of us, complete with family members he barely even knows, causing him grief.

Barack’s brother, George Obama was recently arrested in Kenya for marijuana possession (it’s called Bhang in Kenya according to CNN reports) over the weekend.

The brothers share a father neither of them knew very well. The pair have met, but are not very close to one another, having grown up with different families about a continent away.

The younger Obama, who is in his mid-20s, is active in the community and studying to be a mechanic.

Update: Charges have been dropped. Imagine that.

Massachusetts law enforcement are now pondering what to do with weed in light of the state’s recent passing of marijuana decriminalization.

C. Samuel Sutter, Bristol County District Attorney, said:

I think it makes it more difficult to convince young people that marijuana is really dangerous.

The new law calls for $100 fines for possession, not arrest. Any juveniles caught with possession of marijuana will have their parents or legal guardians notified and be required to complete 10 hours of community service.

But the law also creates practical problems, such as loopholes for both criminals and police officers, as one legal expert ponders.

Mitch Librett, a criminal justice professor at Bridgewater State College, said:

Case law will have to develop in reaction to the new legislation.

Because marijuana remains illegal, Mr. Librett believes police officers would still be in their rights to stop a vehicle. Although this presents unique problems for both sides of the spectrum – smokers & law enforcement – Massachusetts has taken a step in the right direction.

Now the people are paid to protect and defend us need to adjust accordingly…

A recent debate rocked the considerable girth of the sumo world, when Gagloev Soslan Aleksandrovich, who wrestles under the name “Wakanoho,” was kicked out of the sumo world for the “major illegal act” of marijuana possession.

Maybe, this is one of the few scenarios where weed could’ve been viewed as a performance-enhancer, much like amphetamine pills are banned for those who are trying to shed pounds before a fight. But, it probably has more to do with the negative stigma associated with weed. Total guess though.

Looks like Philadelphia police turned a simple mailing mistake into a decent sized drug bust. At Kmart, employees noticed a box that didn’t quite fit in with the surrounding products. What was in it? Only 25 lbs. worth of pot. That’s an estimated street value of over $100,000.

So, these watchful employees call the police and the police put in motion a nice little sting operation. The package in question was delivered to its original destination, as intended. Agnes Ortiz, not aware of the mailing mix-up, received it. Then a woman, Renee Garcia, picked up the package and took it to another house down the street.

The police showed up to bust the house. Inside, they found the original 25 lbs. of weed and then cocaine, PCP, heroin, packaging paraphernalia and US currency. Crazy.

Ortiz, Garcia and a 15 year old boy were arrested on charges of possession and intent to distribute. Sounds like a job well done by the Philly police.

Another bullshit marijuana possession charge. This one’s against Bill Belichick’s son, Stephen. His friend, Jonathon Pizarro, was also arrested and charged with the same infraction.

If you look at all the accomplishments this kid has – an award last year for outstanding service to the football program at Rivers, an All-Independent School League honorable mention and more – it proves that hard work and smoking herb aren’t mutually exclusive.
