Wide Receiver Catches Weed Misdemeanor
April 30th, 2009 by Russ
Pittsburgh Steelers’ star receiver, Santonio Holmes, was arraigned Tuesday for possessing three blunts that he offered as evidence to officers during a traffic stop last October.
Apparently, the Pittsburgh police officers were looking for ‘real criminals’ when they came upon Holmes’ car. Unfortunately, the NFL star matched police’s description of a suspicious-looking “large black man driving a fancy car.” In the surprise of the century, Holmes’ lawyer is challenging the constitutionality of the traffic stop.
Holmes, who was last year’s Superbowl MVP, said that he “learned a lot” from his one game suspension following the weed arrest. One thing he’s sure to have learned is that ‘driving while black’ is still a crime in some parts of the country.
Seattle Seahawks Leroy Hill Busted for Possession
January 26th, 2009 by Perry
I never fully understand why celebrities continually get caught doing stupid things behind the wheel. Apparently Leroy Hill is not above the influence. If you earn $200,000 a year or more, as every starter in the NFL does (by a sufficient margin), then there’s no reason you can’t call a cab.
Leroy Hill, a linebacker for Seattle, got caught with a couple baggies of weed in his car — because he fell asleep at an intersection at 4 am. Reportedly, Hill passed out and didn’t come to until officers responded to complaints about a motorist asleep at the wheel.
It certainly helps explain why Seattle’s defense was so awful this year.
Ricky Fights the Urge
September 30th, 2008 by Alex
In an interview, Ricky Williams talked about how hard it was to refrain from enjoying a toke during his team’s bye week.
Williams is notorious as the running back who’s been suspended three different times for 1, 4 and 16 games respectively. Violating the league’s substance abuse policy hasn’t helped his bank account too much, Ricky said that a fourth violation would likely result in permanent expulsion from the league.
He said:
Automatically your mind, which is so constrained since training camp began … says, ‘I’m free, what can I do?’
So there was definitely an urge. But I just thought about what I have to lose, and it was easy. The urge didn’t last very long.
Although Ricky says he’ll never indulge again as a pro football player, he can’t commit to that when he retires. Good call Ricky, not like you can get suspended from your retirement, so it’s safe to light one up and enjoy a bear claw or two.
It’s rare to see such honesty from a professional athlete when it comes to marijuana usage. Considering the amount of constant beatings their bodies take, and the consistent pains once done playing in the league, it’s surprising that more NFL players don’t address the subject of pot as pain relief.
Well, Ricky did. Smart? Probably not. Honest? Definitely.
