tFS Feature: Movies You Should See at Least Once

July 3rd, 2009 by Erin

Okay, to clear things up before we begin; this is not a top #number movie list. This is simply a list of personal favorite movies I think every herb enthusiast should see once, if not add to their library. Moreover, I’ve also included my favorite accompanying strain and smoking method for each of the selections.

Pineapple Express

  • Favorite Character: Saul Silver
  • Favorite Strain: Pineapple Express (if available) or anything citrusy. Cali Orange, Lemon Diesel, etc.
  • Preferred Method: Joint

When the two criminals, Brody & Guch (Mike EppsWood Harris) who received the package, open it and find concealed bricks of cocaine, they come up with a plan to flip it and make some easy cash. When the intended recipient of the package, Jesus (Cisco Reyes) is contacted by the dealer, Bodega (Emilio Rivera) and he tells him he hasn’t received the drugs, the hunt for the cocaine begins, starting with the two delivery men Leo & Eric (Donald Faison & Mos Def).

Next Day Air is set to be released on May 8th.

Movie: Adventureland

March 26th, 2009 by Rick

Adventureland

It was the worst job they ever imagined… and the best time of their lives. A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it’s the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.

With the Director Greg Mottola (Superbad) at the helm, Adventureland might prove to be a great comedy. Based on the experiences he had working at a Long Island amusement, Mottola cooks up a passable amount of mischief to occupy the late-teen/early-20s misfits who work as ride and game operators at Pittsburgh’s Adventureland in the summer of ‘87.  Mottola indulges the audience with abundant puking, groin pinches, drunk and stoned behavior, and lax work habits.

Look for Adventureland in theaters on April 3rd.

Trailer’s available after the jump.

The Wackness Wants You to Smoke

Ever seen The Wackness?

If not, it’s a throwback movie about a 1994 teenager who deals pot, befriends his therapist, and lives life in New York City during his last summer before college.

I’ve got to give it to Revolver Entertainment (The Wackness’ distribution team), because they’ve come up with a promotion that Harold & Kumar would be seriously jealous of – a trip to Amsterdam and 1 gram of skunky buds.

The 1 gram isn’t exactly mind blowing, but if you get to Amsterdam, I’m sure you’ll be throwing down for some extra green time.

So how does it work?

Inside the first 1,000 copies of the DVD there is a single winning ticket – Willy Wonka style. There’s only one problem, this is for Revolver’s UK distribution arm only. No Yanks are getting in on the action.

Still, it’s a cool idea and some lucky SOB is going to get a quick flight out from London to the capitol of ganja.

The Dude, Spicoli and Other Classic Movie Stoners

December 11th, 2008 by Perry

In honor of James Franco’s humbling, bumbling and stumbling stoner portrayal of Saul Silver in Pineapple Express, Unreality Magazine put together a pretty solid list of memorable stoner characters in movies.

Ranging from the lesser known Floyd in True Romance (not a huge part of the movie but a fantastically realistic stoner portrayal by Brad Pitt), to Cheech and Chong, David Chappelle as Half Baked’s protagonist, Thurgood — all with some great clips.

The worst portrayal has to go to Dante in Grandma’s Boy — what kind of drug dealer would buy a lion to protect his or her stash?

Courting Condi

November 7th, 2008 by Alex

With a President-elect sitting in the wings, a new administration is waiting to take over the White House. We’ve all been focusing on Obama & McCain these past few months, but what about Bush? And more importantly, what about that strikingly beautiful Secretary of State with the beguiling smile?

These are questions I don’t have the courage to answer, but a man by the name of Devin Ratray does, and he filmed the epic journey that ensued.

In a self-billed romantic/political/biographic documentary, Devin asks one simple question:

Can one man with a dream win the heart of the world’s most powerful woman?

I have no idea, but Courting Condi should be fun to watch…

Cigarettes & The Big Screen

September 26th, 2008 by Alex

Back before everyone knew about that little thing called cancer, smoking cigarettes was actually cool. No, beyond cool. You were the man. Why? Because all the movie stars did it.

Turns out that wasn’t a coincidence, but more like a prolific advertising arrangement between studios, actors and the cigarette companies.

Between 1927 and 1951, major studios and tobacco companies partnered on at least 215 cigarette advertising campaigns.

Crazy. Companies like Lucky Strike and others got stars to smoke in each scene and even talk about the “benefits” of their favorite pack o’ butts. Today, science has gotten the better of tobacco companies, kind of, and most people have wizened up. No more movies like Breakfast At Tiffany’s or The French Connection, with cigarettes dangling from the protagonist’s lips.

Now it’s all about product placement and pervasive, subliminal advertising. Ah, how the industry as progressed…

420 The Movie

May 3rd, 2007 by Alex

###

The first teasers for 420 The Movie have become available and, by all appearances, the project looks awesome.

Not to be confused with 420, which was written and directed by Jon Lyons in 2004. This movie brings in many of the heavy hitters from past and present day marijuana culture.

To name a few:

  • Willie Nelson
  • Ed Rosenthal
  • Jack Herer
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Cheech Marin
  • Tommy Chong
  • Woody Harrelson
  • Dennis Hopper

Not exactly a list of lightweights is it? Still, that’s just a sampling of the many people involved with this production.

So, go visit the 420 homepage to see a hi-res version of their brand new trailer, or view a YouTube version after the jump.
