Kush Should Be Punished More Severely, Rep. Says

June 16th, 2009 by Russ

Master Kush - Yummy

Try as they might, our country’s legislative bodies cannot seem to get on the same page. The very same week that legislator Barney Frank introduces a bill to protect medical marijuana dispensaries from undue and unjust prosecution, someone on the other side of the aisle wants to increase legal penalties on certain strains of it.

Illinois’ 10th District Representative, Mark Kirk, thinks it would be a wise idea to single out “kush” dealing and make it punishable by up to 25 years for a first offense. For the uninitiated, kush isn’t a new chemical weapon or a secret Satanic doctrine that causes its members to engage in deplorable acts. It’s simply a species of weed that contains 5-10% more THC than your typical, regular marijuana strain.

In the press circulating around Kirk’s new proposal, there doesn’t seem to be very many arguments for imposing such draconian penalties. A sheriff from Kirk’s home turf (Lake County, IL) offered this rationale:

They are more dangerous behind the wheel of a vehicle. It’s not a good idea to have people that messed up.

Well that certainly makes zero sense. Isn’t that the reason why laws treating drunkenness from weak spirits and hard liquor are completely different? I mean, could you imagine if the same people with access to beer (5% alcohol) were allowed to access Bacardi 151 (75% alcohol)? It would be total anarchy in a world like that. Heh.

Hang on a moment… My intern here is telling me that we actually have no laws that distinguish beer from wine or from hard alcohol. No law distinguishes 5% alcohol by volume from 75%. In fact, we allow adults to use these substances responsibly, regardless of the volume they consume at all. And it’s only when they demonstrate a lack of responsibility (like getting behind the wheel, or making life difficult for someone else) that we see fit to punish them at all.

To be fair, we have yet to reach the real crux of the Kirk team’s argument for this new standard. To quote Lake County Sheriff, Mark Currand, once more:

When you amplify the strength of it, you are increasing the harm to the system.

Well I, for one, would like to thank Representative Mark Kirk (who can be conveniently reached at 202-225-4835) and his intrepid staff for taking a pre-emptive strike against that vile kush-weed before it inevitably ruins our society and systems at large.

Medical Marijuana: Hollywood OG

May 17th, 2007 by Ryan

Hollywood OG Kush

There is one word that dominates this entire review — crystals! The medical marijuana strain pictured above is called Hollywood OG and has just about as many crystals as any strain I’ve come across yet. What better reason to review it?

theFreshScent Product Recap
Strain Hollywood OG
Type Sativa/Indica Hybrid
Pros Long lasting high
Cons Weak taste and pricey
Price $30/g, $80/8th
tFS Rating 8.0/10

This very high-grade marijuana is currently being stocked at dispensaries around the Southern California area. At first glance, the light coloring of the bud may not be its finest aspect, but the sight of how many crystals covering the leafy greens more than make up for it. Combined with a nice fluffiness, this bud is light and sticky to the touch.

This particular plant is not the strongest OG strain, but hey, can you really go wrong with any Kush? This bud got me medicated very quickly and effectively, starting in the head and slowly moving downwards to the body. Still, the strongest effects are felt in the head region. It left me high for almost 3 hours and provided a smooth come down.

While stizzied up on this bud, I strongly suggest watching a good movie or listening to a great album because once the full high kicks in, it’s tough do anything that requires lots of movement.

My overall impression of this Hollywood OG is that it is one high-end marijuana bud. Though a bit on the steep side, the high it provides more than makes up for any deficiences. Still, I’m not so sure why this particular OG strain is called Hollywood other than I purchased it in Hollywood. Go figure.

Medical Marijuana: Super Bubba Kush

April 30th, 2007 by Alex

Super Bubba Kush

The ever-popular Kush strain is highly sought after and also highly available in Southern California. One of the more popular sub-strains of this eye-reddening varietal is Super Bubba Kush.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Strain Super Bubba Kush
Type Indica dominant
Pros Great taste
Cons Hard come-down
Price $30/g, $80/8th
tFS Rating 9.0/10

There’s a reason this herb is called Super Bubba and not just Bubba, this bud has it all – a very sweet smell, amazing taste, many large hairs and great color.

At first glance, the Super Bubba Kush catches your attention with its long hairs and crystal coating. The light green leaves, also doused with crystals, add to the dynamic look of this prize fighter.

Effects from this strain are powerful and heavy. The high starts in the face and spreads rapidly towards the rest of the body. Super Bubba puts in a solid day’s work with well over 2 hours of body-numbing effects. Unfortunately, the come down is harsh and abrupt, leaving you almost brain dead for a few hours afterwards.

Super Bubba Kush is an all around all-star bud, if you can afford it. One thing you get along with the VIP name and effects is the VIP price.

Make sure you clear your calendar accordingly after burning this strain and plan something to do that doesn’t require a lot of movement and/or thought.

Medical Marijuana: Super Silver Kush

Super Silver Kush

From the land of indicas comes a great strain called Super Silver Kush. A great indica bud that packs an above-average performance for a mid-range price.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Strain Super Silver Kush
Type Indica dominant
Pros Medium head high to relaxing body high
Cons Weak taste
Price $25/g, $70/8th
tFS Rating 7.5/10

The leaves are very short and dense with a medium coating of very tiny crystals. There is a shade of orange and tint of silver in each bud due to the abundant amount of crystal covered orange hairs. And with it being so dense, a small amount of bud goes a long way. The flavor is weak leaving much to be desired afterwards.

Effects from this indica kush start at the upper body region and quickly move to the rest of the body. It has a nice relaxing high to it after ~30 minutes. Blazed, I fully recommend checking out some art! The high lasts an average time, just under two hours, but is a great all-around feeling without a harsh come down.

Overall, this is just a good kush from California that isn’t too heavy on the pockets.

Medical Marijuana: Real Deal Bubba Kush

January 30th, 2007 by Alex

###

I have come across many strains of sativa kush in my day, however, the Real Deal Bubba Kush is by far one of the best I have ever seen. Looks like I’m lucky that my first review is of some.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Strain Real Deal Bubba Kush
Type Indica dominant
Pros Intense all-over high
Cons Not more like it
Price $30/g, $80/8th
tFS Rating 9.5/10

The leaves are extremely sticky with a large coating of crystals. Each bud contains a slight shade of purple and there is a very sweet, almost citrus smell that lets you know a great taste is on the way.

Putting a flame to this plant is a delight. The flavor is intense yet smooth and packs a lot of body in the aftertaste.

Effects from this kush start at the head and progressively move outwards until a nice, intense high is rocking throughout your entire body. Please do not operate heavy machinery. Sit back, kick it and enjoy the ride!

The high lasts a long time, well over 2 hours. This kush is really potent and one of the best I’ve ever come across. However, it can milk the cash cow very easily.

Overall, this strain has it all. If you are looking for an intense, long lasting high then this is your bud. The pictures don’t even do it justice!

Da Bomb Blunts: ‘Kush’ Kiwi-Strawberry

August 8th, 2006 by Alex

Da Bomb Blunts Kiwi Strawberry

Kiwi-Strawberry is a common flavor these days and Da Bomb Blunts has arrived with their version of this smooth combo. As expected, the scent is almost dead on target – a healthy dose of strawberry with just enough kiwi in there to balance it all out.

This level of quality does not transfer to the flavor though, because there isn’t much in the first place. Still, you will notice a hint of smoothness added to the taste. Leaf texture and rollability are all top notch, making this latest offering a good buy when looking for a complimentary blunt to a chill evening.
