Book: New Skateboard Graphics
April 1st, 2009 by Rick
Skateboarders rejoice! New Skateboard Graphics by J. Namdev Hardisity has been published that demonstrates just how far skate culture (and design) has come. The book itself has a slick cover, a blonde woodgrain that looks like the maple blank of a board. Inside the front and rear folds of the book are nearly 300 decks including; the now-defunct Bueno, the whole Popwar collection, and Bam Margera’s Element.
For a graphic designer or a product designer interested in applique, the book is an eyeful but the the real treasure trove is the appendix at the end of the book, where the graphic artists are credited. Skateboard art design now has something to offer nearly any graphic designer (especially if you don’t mind a blood covered skull or two.)
Purchase the book here on Amazon.
After the jump we’ve included a few page excerpts from New Skateboard Graphics.
The Uni Watch
January 14th, 2009 by Alex
We don’t post too much gear news on tFS, but this watch is just too cool to leave alone.
It’s called ‘The Uni’ by the design studio qixen-p and is fully customizable.
The body of is a simple 32×32mm square design that contains a 96×96 pixel OLED full-color display. Included with the watch is software that let’s the owner specify everything from fonts to digit positions, backgrounds to hand designs. It’s basically like buying an unending number of watches in one simple package.
How does it connect? Via a built-in mini USB and a motion activated accelerometer.
Although not in production, qixen-p won the 2009 IF Product Design Award and is actively looking for an investment company to produce the watches. Check out more of the face possibilities after the jump….

Seriously Trippy Couches
October 1st, 2008 by Alex
Couches are awesome. You can get high, go sit on them and be really comfortable. I’m pretty sure that’s the point. Play some Call of Duty, watch House or just fall asleep. Some couches are good for that too.
Most people have regular couches – usually big enough for 3 people and made out of leather or some sort of fabric. It’s pretty safe to say that the whole couch thing has been solved for the Average Joe.
But what about couches that look like lego blocks? Or tigers? Or coffins? Good question, because designers have your back. Literally.
After the jump, check out a collection of trippy, crazy and somewhat uncomfortable looking couches…

Marc Emery on CBC TV: This video shows why Marc Emery is the premier face of the legalization movement. He’s intelligent, well-spoken and just sounds like a cool guy to smoke out with. On top of that, he makes some great points about the US government, extradition and legalization in general.

Art Army Action Figures: These awesome and insanely detailed action figures are the product of Michael Leavitt’s skilled hands. Made out of synthetic clay and elastic, these 6″ to 12″ tall figures pay homage to all types of famous artists – both dead and alive. [via Wooster Collective]
