Depleted Border Patrol Looks to Children

May 18th, 2009 by Russ

It might be the angle, but it looks like he's pointing the rifle at the back of his team member -- friendly fire much?

Like a hungry stoner scavenging through the kitchen cupboards for a stray graham cracker, the US Border Patrol has found its resources sadly lacking recently. Amidst administration demands for more recruitment and hiring, the Border Patrol has turned to a tried and true tactic of depleted armies throughout history — conscripting children.

The Explorers Program, a Boy Scouts of America affiliate, trains the pubescent in the art of raiding dens of iniquity, seizing illegally imported goods, and patrolling barren wastelands.

In the words of a California sheriff’s deputy involved with the program:

This is about being a true-blooded American guy and girl.

While it’s unclear what his hermaphroditic reference is all about, it does seem like a wonderful opportunity for these kids to participate in the formative experience that is pepper-spraying a starving immigrant right in the eye socket. That kind of invaluable interaction will really put some hair on the chests of our next crop of soldier-kids.

Mom Treats 9-Year-Old Son with Weed

May 15th, 2009 by Russ

Marijuana vs. Pills

An incredibly touching story from doublex retells the tale of a mother at wits end, trying to find the right remedy for her son’s autism. Ironically called ‘J’ in the piece, the 9-year old not only suffers from the cognitive disorder, but has also endured several spinal cord surgeries and lives in near-constant pain. The mother and anonymous author of the piece finally settled on a weed-based tea as the only effective treatment for her child.

The Marijuana Mom only settled on weed treatment after running the gamut of pediatrician-recommended drugs, including a host of anti-inflammatory medications. She then tried Marinol, weed’s synthetic cousin, to limited effect. It was only when ‘J’ managed to inhale some vaporized greenery, that his pain subsided and he was able to more fully interact with his world.

The Pot Parent’s story raises some important questions about how we determine which drugs are safe and which aren’t. Risperdal, an anti-psychotic used for children (as mentioned in the piece) has accounted for dozens of accidental deaths among children. As is well known, marijuana has never been linked to a overdose-related death of any kind.

Our nation’s health care experts seem unusually ill-equipped to provide a credible voice on this issue. After a decade of spotty and suspect performance from the FDA, many patients and their families are looking for alternatives to standard prescription drugs. Many folks would rather not deal with a nightmarishly bureaucratic and ineffectual health care system. At least one bold parent has taken matters into her own hands. She may not be the last.

December’s Dumbass of the Month

December 3rd, 2008 by Perry

What did Vaswan Polty do to earn such a dubious distinction?

Polty was not only such a moron that he coaxed a 2-year old and 4-year old nephew to smoke weed, (yes, you read that right) he also filmed it with the kids’ father.

As icing on the cake, Polty left a tape of the incident lying around which was found while his house was searched in a separate robbery investigation. Talk about a stand up dude.

Once police brought the children into protective custody, it was discovered the youngsters had marijuana and cocaine traces in their systems.

This all went down in 2007, but since Polty just got sentenced for up to 7 years in prison on 2 counts of causing injury to a child, and 3 seperate burglary charges.

Don’t worry, the other idiot involved in this case, Demetris McCoy, got sentenced to 8 years. Good times all around, and welcome to the Dumbass tag on theFreshScent.

Interview: Teenager who Gave Nephews Pot

March 8th, 2007 by Alex

Whenever a polarizing subjects like drugs and children combine, it’s going to be a lightning rod for criticism. This video shows an uncut interview with the teenager who gave his nephews pot… and recorded it.

You can see the complete cultural opposites of an urban black youth while he’s communicating with the officer who’s doing the interview. In his mind’s eye, he hasn’t done anything horrible like pull a gun on someone or shoot them full of crystal meth, but he still hasn’t digested why people find this so offensive.

Obviously, this behavior is wrong. He knows it, he was just being a stupid kid. Everyone is to some degree, and I’m sure there are things that if you video taped them you’d be in the hot seat, but this sort of shit really puts a bad name on the mantle of pot smokers.

Unfortunately, this video seems to be generated by an anti-ethnic website (and hosted on YouTube). I wasn’t able to find another copy, so I’ve been forced to use this one. tFS doesn’t support the message of the people who generated this video, so we will not acknowledge them with a referring link. I suggest you do the same.
