Antique Cannabis Cough Medicine

December 5th, 2006 by Alex

Cough.

Here is an old-school image from the Antique Cannabis Book. Way back, cannabis was used for things that you’d never imagine in this day and age. One of the more interesting applications was as a cough medicine ingredient.

Above, is one of many different cough medicines which had cannabis as a major component. Made by Columbus Pharmacal Co., this medicine contained some highly questionable substances such as: opium, chloroform and aromatics. Aromatics? That must be like seeing ‘natural flavorings’ as an ingredient on today’s products but still having absolutely no clue what that actually means.

The company behind it, which later became known as Roxanne Labs, now makes a popular synthetic form of marijuana called Marinol.

Man am I glad science has come a long way since the 1920s. And the irony of it is that weed is responsible for way more coughs these days than cures.

2006 Marijuana Mid-Term Results

06' Marijuana Mid-Term Results

Well, all the results are in and it’s time to get them out to the public. The conclusions from these mid-term elections are mixed. Seeing how close some of the major ballots came to being passed, it looks like we’re on the right track towards legalization.

Honorable mentions go to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Massachusetts for passing ordinances and low level resolutions aiding in the deprioritization of marijuana arrests.

Read below to see official sites and measure summaries:

California
Measure P (Santa Barbara) - Complete pot deprioritization
Measure K (Santa Cruz) - Complete pot deprioritization
Measure Y (Santa Monica) - Complete pot deprioritization

Colorado
Amendment 44 - Legalization of up to 1 ounce of marijuana for adults 21+ years old

Montana
Initiative 2 (Missoula) - Complete pot deprioritization

Nevada
Question 7 - Remove all civil penalties for the private possession, create state-wide system for taxation & distribution

South Dakota
Initiated Measure 4 - Allow the physician-authorized use of cannabis for medicinal purposes

Fresh Cannabis Santal

August 23rd, 2006 by Alex

Cannabis Santal

Unlike the first cannabis cologne that tFS covered, this scent isn’t meant to make you reek like herb. Also, it’s actually in production, which I hear makes a small difference.

Fresh Cannabis Santal is a new, cannabis based Eau Di Parfum. Their product description says:

This classic scent for men is a sensual, masculine blend of rich fruits like kumquat and dark plum mingled with patchouli, magnolia, chocolate, vetiver, and vanilla musk. It’s a memorable scent that leaves a lasting impression.

They might be over-stating the ‘memorable’ part a little, but still, any product that is stocked by Sephora is going to be extremely high quality. This product should help you stand out from the CK1 crowd, so pick it up and let us know what you think about it.

Cannabis Testing Against MS

August 11th, 2006 by Alex

Cannabis vs. MS

In England, Cannabis is being tested against the progression of Multiple Sclerosis - a disease that erratically degenerates parts of the central nervous system. Everyone in the medical marijuana community knows that cannabis lessens the symptons of MS, but the question here is whether it can also slow the disease’ progression.

The trials are being funded by a $3.8 million grant that specifically targets the effect of THC and its role in protecting nerve cells. Professor John Zajicek, of the Peninsula Medical School had this to say:

This trial will build on our previous study which, coupled with our work in the laboratory, suggested that THC could have a protective effect on nerves.

Multiple Sclerosis is a very unpredictable disease. Currently there are few medicines which are effective in treating MS and none have been shown to have any effect in the progressive stages of the disease.

The further implications of this trial, if they prove to be effective, will have far reaching implications for anyone with nuerodegenerative conditions. This hits especially close to home for me, as my Godmother has been confined to a wheelchair for over 4 years due to this disease. Anything that improves her (and many others) ability to live a fuller, happier life is something worth looking into.

Top 10 Most Unusual CC Products

August 3rd, 2006 by Alex

Welcome to the first installment of a re-occurring series for tFS - the Top 10. Kind of trendy? Probably, but there’s some cool shit out there and this is as good a way as any to show it all off.

This week’s Top 10 is devoted to the odd & unusual products out there. Yes, everyone knows about bongs, blunts, papers, grinders, scales and whatever else you see at the local headshop. Today, however, we’re looking at the random, unusual, eccentric and even completely useless products that are floating around the smokosphere (you heard it here first). What started out as basic products for enjoying the simple pleasure of smoking has morphed into one-offs and completely unique products that manufacturers hope will get your attention.

#10Marijuana Dart Flights

Bullseye
Nothing says you’re down for a serious game of Cricket, 501, or stab a friend in the eye than a set of Marijuana Flight Darts. Sure all those other suckers might be sporting Playboy Bunny logos, English flags, or Jaws on their darts, but everyone will know who the real deal is once you break out with the mean green.

Seriously though, I never have and I doubt I ever will see someone shooting at the local pub with these dart flights. This is an example of creating a product for the wrong age demographic, but still, it’s nice to know they exist.
