Ever watched an Anti-Drug PSA and thought, “What the hell are these guys smoking?”

You’re not the only one.

Studies have shown that these anti-drug commercials are not only completely unsuccessful but also a waste of millions of dollars in taxpayer’s money.

So, after years worth of supporting research into this topic, you’d think the government would change it’s tactics. Well, it has … kind of.

The newest stream of PSA’s have gone from high-budget, live action spots to badly drawn, poorly thought out excuses for anti-drug commercials. I mean, these things get more ridiculous every time I see them, yet somehow they keep getting made.

Today, we’re going to look at the latest batch of garbage from Above the Influence – the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s attempt at influencing today’s teens into going along with America’s outdated anti-drug program.

Walk Yourself

In this poignant story of a man and his dog, the Office of National Drug Policy has decided to equate people who smoke weed to coma patients.

I guess if you smoke marijuana you don’t like to move your legs, you don’t like to feel the wind on your face and you’re also mean to animals. Damn this evil plant!

Try Football

My friends and I all gather in a circle, smoke pot and then go out to impress the ladies, just like the guy in this anti-drug PSA. If only I’d known that football was the key to every woman’s heart.

Not Again

This is probably the best out of them all.

First, you’ve got a girlfriend who hates that her boyfriend smokes weed. Then, an alien lands and the girlfriend hooks up with it because the little bastard refuses some pot. Yea, that’s realistic.

Seriously, what the hell are these people on?

Stop Looking At Me

Now we’re back to the talking dog. I don’t know what sort of hyper-intelligent beagle is being drawn for these commercials, but the only time my dog stares at me is when I’m eating dinner and it wants some food.

The only way to legitimately disappoint a canine is to wave a treat in front of it’s face and then eat it yourself. However, I don’t recommend this.

I Feel Bad

Who thinks about how bad they feel smoking pot while they’re actually doing it?

If you’ve got self-restraint, and you think smoking isn’t right for you, don’t do it. It’s extremely simple.

The only symptom I notice when people smoke with their friends is lots of laughter. So until that becomes hazardous to your health, everything should work out fine.

Every once in a while you’ll come across a deal that seems almost too good to be true. As the saying goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

Wiser words have rarely been spoken and they get reinforced daily through lessons learned the hard way. Our product that seems too good to be true is the Wagner HT 400 Heat Gun.

Now, your first question is probably, “Why the hell is theFreshScent reviewing a heat gun?” The answer is simple, because some shady headshops are trying to pass off these Home Depot glue warmers as ‘vaporizer lighters.’

They’ll look you straight in the eye and say that this gun is perfect for use with your pipe or bong and will make the smoking experience much healthier. In a word – wrong.

So, other than the temperature being wrong and the air pushed out of the HT 400 preventing it from working, is it at least cheap? No (again). Well, maybe if you buy it for the actual retail price of $33 from a Home Depot or Lowe’s. Instead, certain headshops are trying to sell this heat gun for $60 a pop – nearly doubling the price of the item. Strike three.

This is by far and away the worst product tFS has ever reviewed. So bad, we had to give it a 1.0 out of 10 rating. The only way it could score worse than that is if a staff member was injured while trying to review the damn thing.

As a vaporizer lighter the HT 400 doesn’t work, it’s expensive and it just plain sucks. It’s designed for construction and arts & crafts oriented work, which it excels at.

If you ever see one of these things at your local headshop, be aware that they’re willing and able to rip you off without a second thought.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this one. It’s like Cannabis Addicts on steroids combined with horrible video effects and bad editing. Oh yea, his website style looks slightly familiar too.

I’m not sure what sort of weed this guy used to smoke, but when I come across some liquid lead kush I’ll be sure to let everyone know.

If the video’s goal is to advertise how great his life is without marijuana then someone needs to go back to marketing school. Instead, this video is just a badly thought out scare tactic.

HowToStopSmokingMarijuana.com has all the characteristics of a money making scheme. It’s also badly developed and executed. Hopefully, everyone here & over the pond knows to stay away from this sort of crap.

In the internet advertising industry there are many different ways to scam people out of time and money. You can promise Free $500 Gift Cards, offer Debt Consolidation or sucker people into completely worthless programs. It’s not hard to spot these sort of operations and one happened to come across my inbox the other day – Cannabis Addicts.

All these bogus sites tend to share the same characteristics:

• Long, overblown product explanations
• Plenty of fake “customer” endorsements
• An expert system creator to add credibility
• Some random advertising company hiding behind it all

So, what’s the end result of all this? If you want to quit smoking pot, which is totally cool by me, do it the right way. Talk to a doctor or a friend who’s done it successfully. Don’t be another victim and pay out of pocket for some lame attempt to rip people off.

Update: Turns out that Cannabis Addicts has their own weblog. The posts seem genuine enough, but you can always tell the real motivation by how many times the owner links back to his own products. In the end, it’s all a money grab.
