Juicy Blunts: Bluntzilla

May 7th, 2007 by Alex

Juicy Blunts: Bluntzilla

Sometimes you walk into a headshop and one product sticks out from the rest. It doesn’t happen all the time but Bluntzilla, by Juicy Blunts, pulled it off.

Company Juicy Blunts
Made In Dominican Republic
Pros Fancy wrapper?
Cons All bark, no bite
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 7.0/10

You can tell from the picture, that JB put a little too much ‘extreme’ into one blunt wrapper. Drinking Mountain Dew, Juicy tried to re-create the famous sugary flavor.

At first, the wrap smells very similar to Juicy’s Blunt & Mild flavor. After letting it sit for a while, you pick up on hints of sweet with deeper undertones, like a sweet coffee or a latte with too much sugar.

As far as definable traits are concerned, that about covers it. The smoking experience doesn’t give off anything unique. No taste added to your blunt and no aroma emitted. Too bad, because I was expecting really good things from something with such a bold name.

Even though there isn’t as much personality as expected, the smoking experience wasn’t unpleasant. This wrap still brings the high quality Juicy Blunts manufacturing process - even burn and no runs.

This wrap won’t cause panic in a large Japanese city, but it will set you well on your way to personal devastation.

Dutch Masters: Corona Deluxe

Phillies Blunt

The classic Dutch Master: Corona Deluxe is and will be forever a favorite of mine. This cigar has all the major elements required to make a great blunt.

Company Dutch Master

Pros Nice outter leaf
Cons Can canoe easily
Price $1.00 to $1.25
tFS Rating 8.5/10

The most well-known of all blunt cigars has to be the Dutchie. These cigars have 3 great qualities to them that make them perfect for a blaze session. First, these cigars come in all sorts of flavors and styles. Ranging from the classic brown leaf to ever popular green leaf versions, along with almost every type of flavor you can think of. My personal favorite is the honey green leaf.

Second, the outer leaf can be easily taken off when lightly moistened and used for the final preparation of the blunt. This comes in handy for beginner blunt rollers who don’t have the control with just one leaf. Make sure to keep it moist!

The inner leaf is big enough to roll up any size blunt that may be needed. You can chop it down for a mini or leave it full size for a serious session. And to top it, off just wrap up the inner leaf with the outer leaf for a nice tight blunt.

Last but not least, these cigars burn at the perfect speed. Not too fast and not too slow. However, I have had some difficulty with these blunts canoing every now and then. Luckily, this can be fixed with some saliva near the burning edge.

I have always enjoyed a nice Dutch Master: Corona Deluxe and with all the flavors out now, you can easily find one that fits your taste! And for all you beginner rollers, a Dutchie is a great way to perfect your skills.

Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos

Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos

After receiving many messages from you guys to do more back-to-the-basics tobacco wrap reviews, we caved in. So today I present the good ol’ Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos. These tiny cigars come in handy quite often for me. I enjoy the taste, smell, and you don’t have to use all your bud filling them.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company Swisher Sweets
Made In Florida
Pros Great taste
Cons Tricky to roll
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 6.5/10

Another great thing about these cigarillos is that almost every gas station in California has them… correction, almost every gas station in the entire US have them, so they’re easily accessible.

The mini cigars come in a wide range of flavors from plain to grape to strawberry. And these flavors make quite a difference when lit. One end of the cigarillo is heavily flavored so when smoking it gives your bud an even sweeter taste. However, before getting to the smoking part, first comes the tricky one. You don’t want to damage the little surface area you have, so take your time. An experienced blunt roller should have no problem rolling one of these within minutes, ready to smoke.

I wasn’t big into Swisher Sweets in the beginning but damn it, they wear on you. They’re great for a one to three person session and they usually hold a decent amount of bud if needed.

True Blunt: Sweet Cherry

True Blunt: Sweet Cherry

True Blunts is a brand that we are going to feature more often on tFS. Their line has expanded in recent months, and with the addition of celebrity endorser Warren G, expect them to make a splash. Today, I’m reviewing the Sweet Cherry flavor.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company True Blunts
Made In Mexico
Pros On-point smell
Cons Nothing stands out
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 7.0/10

While all the major players make their wraps bigger and bigger, True Blunts has taken a different route from other manufacturers in terms of product size. The aim has been to keep theirs manageable and the perfect size for a personal blunt. In this, they’ve succeeded.

The wrap itself smells very similar to cherries. This is by far its strongest asset. Everything else kind of drops off afterwards. The wrap taste and texture is solid, but not amazing. There’s no flavor added and no scents added to your smoke. These wraps to burn at a nice pace and the smoke had a definite smoothness to it.

Juicy Blunts: Tropical Passion

Juicy Blunts: Tropical Passion

It might be the completely wrong time of the year to think about tropical breezes and island-grown fruit, but something’s got to brighten up the day of all our New York readers.

Today, I’m reviewing Juicy Blunts Tropical Passion flavored blunt wrap.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company ZenSmoke
Made In Dominican Republic
Pros Consistent leaf quality
Cons Nothing done well
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 6.5/10

By now, our regular readers should know that all Juicy Blunts come with a tapered edge for improved leaf adhesion. They also share the same manufacturing process, which results in consistently high quality wraps. What Juicy doesn’t do is put the same effort into researching and executing each flavor. To be honest, tropical passion doesn’t live up to its namesake.

The aroma for this wrap was extremely hard to pinpoint. After a lot of debate, it was decided that tropical passion really means sweet cantaloupe. Still, it almost seems that Juicy threw too many scents into this batch and ended up with a very indistinct overall impression.

Tropical Passion provides no leaf taste, smoke taste or smoke aroma. There are quite a few other JB wraps that come to mind before I would recommend this one.

If you’re going to do an exotically-themed blunt wrap, get it right, because the market is already full of them. It’s like bringing a Mustang to a parking lot full of Ferraris… you won’t stand out.

Kingpin: Chocolate Mint

January 30th, 2007 by Tim

Mr. Nice

Many blunt manufacturers use straws, plastic wrap, sealed packaging or any combination of the three to keep fresh and safe guard their wraps. Still, there’s no protection in your pocket or if you accidentally sit on them.

The blunt wrap that’s taken packaging to another level is the Kingpin Premium Blunt. Today I’m reviewing the Chocolate Mint flavor.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Papers
Company ZenSmoke
Made In Philippines
Pros Burn very smooth
Cons No taste added
Price $1.50
tFS Rating 8.0/10

As you can tell, Kingpin’s come sealed in a hard-plastic tube, very similar to Cyclones. The tube can be used as a finished blunt holder for concerts/events or even as a snuffer.

The leaf itself is wrapped around a straw with plastic wrap between the folds. Packaging just doesn’t get more solid than this.

Kingpins smoke much better than I expected. At first, I thought this was an unwrapped Cyclone, but I was 100% wrong. The chocolate mint smell is definitely present on the wrap. There is also a strong tobacco odor from the leaf itself, which makes the mint more subdued than it normally would be.

The rolling process was extremely easy as Zensmoke built in a tapered (thinner) edge to the wraps. Once lit, these things go down smooth. Very smooth. There isn’t any flavor added to the smoke or much of an aroma given off, but that’s Ok. The best part about Kingpins is their slow, even burn.

I was impressed by this wrap and look forward to reviewing more.

Da Bomb Blunts: Bubonic Blueberry

January 26th, 2007 by Tim

Da Bomb Blunts: Bubonic Blueberry

I know everyone misses seeing Nate Dogg and his orange hat, so it’s time to review another blunt wrap from Da Bomb Blunts. Today, I’m focusing on their Bubonic Blueberry flavor.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company Da Bomb
Made In Dominican Republic
Pros Light blueberry smell
Cons Crease in the wrap
Price $1.50
tFS Rating 8.0/10

The best aspect about anything made by Da Bomb is their packaging. One of the most consistent at maintaining blunt freshness, the sealed tube & shape-holding straw method is tough to beat.

The wrap smells like light, summer blueberries. It’s nice to grab a hold of something with an accurate scent instead of a very synthetic smelling reproduction. There’s no special features added to the blunt that might aid in rolling - a tapered end, serrated edges - none of that. What they do have is a quality leaf that burns slow and smooth.

Surprisingly, when lit, this blunt gives off a strawberry like aroma. It doesn’t necessarily taste like blueberries but still makes the whole smoking experience a good one. There are plenty of ways to go wrong with a blunt wrap but Da Bomb Blueberry is a more than solid choice.

Cyclones: Honey

January 22nd, 2007 by Alex

###

It’s Monday morning, so let’s start this week the right way with a blunt wrap review. I didn’t want to kick us off with a normal-style blunt, but instead something a little different - Cyclones.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company Zensmoke
Made In Philippines
Pros Pre-rolled
Cons No flavor, bad taste
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 3.0/10

Cyclones are cone shaped, pre-rolled blunt wraps. They’re protected by a patent pending design that allows for a quick fill and easy smoke. Today’s review flavor is Honey but ZenSmoke also makes Peach, Sour Apple, Fruit Punch, Strawberry-Kiwi, Blueberry, Natural, Mango and White Chocolate. Developing this many flavors shows a significant investment on the manufacturers part.

Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s move on to the details. First, they are extremely convenient and easy to roll. As long as you have a grinder ready, these take less than 2 minutes to pack nicely and take out the door. Other than usability, the honey smell is relatively on point, but that’s where the good features end.

###
Complete patent pending Cyclones schematic.

The most important aspect of these wraps is that they don’t taste like honey. They taste more synthetic than anything I’ve encountered in a long time. What’s worse is they eventually start tasting bad. Almost like there’s some sort of acidic film in your mouth and on your lips. This has to improve in future versions.

Cyclones wraps also add a level of harshness to your smoke. The treatment and texture of the leaf itself is considerably different than that of Juicy Jay’s, Blunt Wrap or Da Bomb Blunts. This is due to the fact the leaves need to be hardened and dried so they maintain their cone shape.

There are going to be some people out there who don’t agree with this, but Cyclones Honey are one of the worst blunts we’ve tested so far. Being convenient is a positive, but not at the price it costs. I hope other flavors bring more to the table for the next pre-rolled blunt review.
