B.C. Smuggler Gets 12 Years Down Under

April 24th, 2009 by Rick

Australian Prison

Two more men involved in an international drug smuggling ring led by imprisoned Yong Ye, were sentenced in an Australian court. Kin Fai Chan of Canada was given 12 years, while Chun Fung Lo, of Hong Kong received 7 and a half years, for a smaller role within the organization.

The charges from Australia, attempting to possess 15 kilos of methamphetamine, are from a December investigation by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit in which Yong Ye pled guilty to being the head honcho of the ring.

After the B.C. Supreme Court sentenced Ye to 18 years in a Vancouver prison, investigators within the CFSE contacted the Australian Federal Police and informed them about an incoming shipment of modified suitcases from Vancouver coming into Australia.

Cheech & Chong Tour Raided Down Under

Cheech and Chong Light Up Australia Tour

25 police officers and 4 K-9 drug sniffing dogs were the latest fans party crashers to the Cheech & Chong Light Up Australia tour last Wednesday at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. 50 people were searched and 6 were found possessing a small amount of marijuana. None of the 6 were either fined or charged — instead they were issued caution notices.

A New South Wales Police spokeswoman said it was all part of a larger drug operation in that area, which included a train station and some other locations near the theater.

Australian Man Fights Law, Law Wins

January 30th, 2009 by Perry

Fast and the Vacuous

During a graduation ceremony filled with Adelaide’s highest ranking police officers, a man from down under deployed an ill-conceived plan to anger law enforcement.

The Australian reports that police saw the man doing burnouts around 10:30 a.m., at which point he was pulled over and cautioned. When the same guy was seen peeling out during the ceremony a short time thereafter, officers intervened and arrested him.

Apparently in Australia, committing a crime also gives authorities permission to visit the perpetrator’s residence, because that’s what they did, and due to the resulting search, added cultivation of three marijuana plants to his charges.

It’s always a good idea to be familiar with local arrest laws if you plan on doing something incredibly stupid. This plan was doomed from the start.

Aussies Create Internet Drug Network

January 28th, 2009 by Perry

Australian Social Network

Using a social-networking site, Australians have created a way to monitor and exchange information about the international drug market. One of the first things it led to was a realization of how high a price the largest island nation was paying for drugs.

Among a few of the prices listed in US Dollars ($):

  • Weed: ~15/gram; ~40/eighth; ~70/quarter
  • Speed: ~50/2.5pts; ~100/half gram; ~180/gram; ~500/8Ball
  • Ice: ~100/2.5pts; ~200/half gram; ~400/gram
  • Heroin: ~50/street cap
  • Ecstasy: ~20/pill; ~100/5 pills; ~160/10 pills; ~900/100 pills
  • GHB: ~3.50/a mil

The forum also has several rules about what you can and can’t say to keep this cyber operation on the narrow edge of what’s considered legal in the land down unda.

Mardigrass 2009

January 16th, 2009 by Alex

Every year in the magical land of Nimbin, Australia (located in the Northeastern corner of New South Wales) there is a sneakily named marijuana reform festival called Mardigrass.

Started in 1993 when the local police pissed off all the townfolk by trying to make undercover weed buys, this event takes place on the first weekend in May (2nd & 3rd to be specific) and is a cornucopia of marijuana related activities – Hemp Olympix, Ganja Faeries on Parade, the Giant Joint and more.

Once you get past the crazy ass backgrounds, Mardigrass’s website is actually pretty cool. They have pages for activities, photos and even past year’s posters.

If you live in Australia and are able to make it Mardigrass, don’t forget to send tFS some shots!

Sydney Cops Seize $12m Ecstasy Supply

December 17th, 2008 by Perry

Totally busted.

Working on an anonymous tip, police raided a Sydney home and found 200,000 ecstasy tablets, and enough MDMA powder, the drug’s active ingredient, to make 200,000 more.

The West Australian reported that the uncompressed powder police found weighed roughly 110 pounds (50 kg) and the haul is thought to be large enough to actually affect drug supply in the city, a rare occurrence in even large-scale raids.

Two men who are thought to be the owners of the house — which had basically been turned into a drug lab to process MDMA — are wanted for questioning in connection with the seizure.

Honesty in Politics, Only Found in Australia

September 26th, 2008 by Perry

They’re throwing out the rule book in Australian politics, and actually opening up and being honest about their drug use.

Julia Guillard, Australia’s acting prime minister, admitted Friday, she had smoked marijuana as a university student. She stated,

At university, tried it, didn’t like it. … I think probably many Australian adults would be able to make the same statement so I don’t think it matters one way or the other.

Remember when Clinton gave the infamous “I never inhaled” line? It was so stupid that it actually insulted me directly and the intelligence of America as a whole. I mean, a sax-playing womanizer? Come on. Of course he inhaled. Go Aussies.
