History Behind the Marijuana Tax Act

September 19th, 2008 by Perry

Part #1

Much better than the museum tour, this nutty professor really knows his stuff when it comes to the history of buds. In this online lecture circuit, he talks about the history behind the Marijuana Tax Act which made marijuana illegal for the first time.

The Magical Mystery Tour

September 18th, 2008 by Perry

Okay… so not exactly.

Actually the curator sounds a little baked and he probably should have organized his “exhibits” instead of just doing a wake-and-bake and just randomly pasting shit all over his walls. But the guy runs a pot museum and clearly loves his work, so what do you expect? It’s still kind of an interesting look into the history of smoking and some of the early devices used back in the day.

Pot Is Not an Accepted Currency in Vegas

September 17th, 2008 by Alex

This one’s a little old, July of ‘08, but damn if it isn’t the leading candidate for Dumbass of the Month.

This homeboy has an ounce of herb in his pockets, and instead of using cash money, he decides to drop some nugs on the table as a wager. Even better, he realizes he’s over-bet, and then takes back some buds and arranges a neat little pile over the betting area. Genius.

Not surprisingly, he was arrested in minutes… dumbass.

From the Left, and the Right

September 17th, 2008 by Perry

Editors Note: theFreshScent is not a political blog, but politics are a topic of interest to the informed smoker, and something we occasionally like to touch on. I sent this hilarious clip from The Daily Show that was sent to me from YouTube.com, and a friend of mine tried to enlighten me from the Right.

His Comment:

Oh I love the Daily Show and Colbert Report, but I worry when the 18-25 crowd uses these shows instead of cable news, and get brainwashed like zombies to vote for Obama. I realize that crowd is already way more idealistic, help the poor and world peace etc. than older cynics, but it adds a crazy influence. I wish young conservatives could come up with a hip show like that that could make the Founding Fathers’ journey to the Constitution, personal freedom and entrepreneurship cool too and bash some libs in the process but what pop network would carry it…can you imagine MTV doing that…hahaha!!

Yeah Karl Rove is a typical partisan but you have to admit he knows the electoral college challenges and more importantly, what drives the electorate better than most… hence, the “Architect.”

I can’t believe that Dick Morris, Clinton’s top YES MAN throughout his first administration, turned so against the Clintons and Hillary and is an almost complete conservative now… “yukkin’ it up” with Hannity using the term ‘We’ to unite them… amazing… makes you wonder if he did all that for Clinton just for money or if he actually believed half the shit in that administration.

I still wait for the day when Jon Stewart or Steve Colbert do the same for Obama or Hillary… like show Obama one second glorifying the Washington, D.C. handgun ban and then the next clip saying, “As I’ve consistently said, I strongly support the Supreme Court decision to overturn the D.C. gun ban and I always support an individual’s right to own a gun.”

You will never see that!

Actually, Red Eye is kind of the hip conservative pop show of Fox News. It’s on very late but it is quite hilarious… mainly the host Greg Gutfeld.

Even liberals would find it funny!

My Response:

Mike makes an interesting point about relying on fake news shows for what’s going on. My only response to Mike is that he mentions Fox News as a cable network news show in comparison to a fake cable news show on Comedy Central. I think that says everything you need to know about the Foxs News Network and the quality of some cable news programs. Go NPR, PBS or BBC if you’re actually trying to get more centrist, objective news coverage.

The bottom-line, none of these candidates are perfect, and it’s important to vote for the person who’s policies will better you and your family’s life. In this country, with people from all walks of life, there’s no perfect answer, but educating yourself in a thorough way is the responsibility of all those with the power to vote.

Classic Standup: Robin Williams

September 17th, 2008 by Perry

Ah, memories. Back when Robin Williams was still considered one of the best standup comics, and not getting made fun of in Family Guy episodes, he could really drop some lines. If you saw his recent Broadway show where he drinks about 15 bottles of water and is a bucket of sweat, a less than diehard fan might think he’s lost his touch.

Well, maybe he has, but not here. In this old clip, a much younger Williams talks about alcohol, weed and sharing with your pets. Good times.

Hey Teach, Got A Light?

September 15th, 2008 by Alex

If this isn’t a classic example of the stoner teach, I don’t know what is.

It’s unclear whether this guy found his son’s stash or he just has a really, really hard time handling his herbature. Either way, I’d get to class 5 minutes early, every day, to hear lectures like this.

San Diego State Drug Bust: Theta Chi Interview

May 6th, 2008 by Alex

sd_bust_1.jpg

San Diego State just became home to one of the largest school-related drug busts in recent history. The final toll? Around 100 people were arrested, 75 of them students. The police confiscated 4 pounds of cocaine, 50 pounds of weed, 350 ecstasy pills, 4 guns and $60,000 in cash.

Considering this is front page news almost everywhere, this article going to be a simple news recap. Instead, we wanted to take a different angle, and talk to someone on the ground. It’s so easy to have an opinion made up by reading a single AP news article, but there are always other sides to a story.

Through a contact, we were able to interview an alumni from the most prominent fraternity involved in the drug sales - Theta Chi - and get a feel for what the local response is to this drug bust.

Let’s get on with it…

theFreshScent: This seems like an extremely serious issue and could possibly affect Theta Chi’s charter. Were these drug dealings completely common knowledge among house members, as the AP news article suggests?

Theta Chi Alumni: It would be safe to say that most brothers in a chapter know what the other brothers are up to, especially brothers who live at the fraternity house. If it is found to be true that drugs were sold on the premises, there is no doubt that their charter will be revoked. Theta Chi holds a strict no tolerance policy on drugs. Even alcohol is not allowed on chapter premises.

420 The Movie

May 3rd, 2007 by Alex

###

The first teasers for 420 The Movie have become available and, by all appearances, the project looks awesome.

Not to be confused with 420, which was written and directed by Jon Lyons in 2004. This movie brings in many of the heavy hitters from past and present day marijuana culture.

To name a few:

  • Willie Nelson
  • Ed Rosenthal
  • Jack Herer
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Cheech Marin
  • Tommy Chong
  • Woody Harrelson
  • Dennis Hopper

Not exactly a list of lightweights is it? Still, that’s just a sampling of the many people involved with this production.

So, go visit the 420 homepage to see a hi-res version of their brand new trailer, or view a YouTube version after the jump.
