Rolling Stone Covers Mexican Drug War
November 4th, 2008 by Alex
NOTE: Turns out this video auto-loads and plays, and that’s not good for our slow bandwidth brethren. The post image is now a screenshot of the video, which you can see after the jump.
Here’s a video of Guy Lawson, a rather contentious reporter for magazines such as Rolling Stone and GQ, explaining the literal drug war that is being waged in Mexico.
We’ve covered this violence before, but never in such depth and with such impact as the Rolling Stone video.
It helps us understand how the political and social climates of our neighbors can be of great importance here at home. Additionally, it really makes you appreciate the difference between living in the United States and the rest of the world.

Get Out and Vote, NOW!
November 4th, 2008 by PerryHere are the candidate’s stances on marijuana one final time in a bite-size, easily-consumable video. Additionally, this is also a reminder about the last time you have to think about voting for a while.
See you guys at the voting booth!
UPDATE: Thanks to Colin for getting us some backstory on the presidential decriminalization topic. It appears that Obama hasn’t always been rock steady in his opinions of legalization or decriminalization. MPP’s original, albeit short, video about Barack Obama can be found here.
Afterwards, a YouTube user by the name of MikeCANN created a response, showing quotes and other examples of Obama’s back & forth opinions - maybe angling to appease as many potential voters as possible. This video is embedded after the jump.
The MPP video that we have above is a more balanced version, and a direct response to MikeCANN’s efforts. On a side note, if you live in Boston, he books the music for the Boston Freedom Rally and has a ton of great videos on his profile page.
Thanks for the info Colin!
The Union: Award Winning Documentary
October 30th, 2008 by AlexHere’s a riveting trailer for a documentary called The Union: The Business Behind Getting High.
Directed by Brett Harvey, this movie has won multiple film festival awards in Canada, and has some pretty biting insight into the industry behind keeping marijuana illegal. Pharmaceutical companies, private prisons, the government, and other entities all profit from the persecution of one of the world’s most useful plants.
Other than the impressive content, check out just a few of the heavy hitters interviewed for this documentary:
- Tommy Chong - you know who he is
- Joe Rogan - one of the coolest dudes alive
- Marc Emery - the Prince of Pot
- Steve Bloom - our friend at CelebStoner
- Ed Rosenthal - the grow expert
- Craig X - well known marijuana activist
- And over 20 more…
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to see The Union yet, but I’m going to get in contact with the production crew and request a copy. I’m really looking forward to checking it out.
Support The Union at their CafePress store or check out some of their press & awards.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Returns with Season 7
October 24th, 2008 by Alex
Just a quick reminder that the king of spreading hilarious misery, Larry David, is in production for Season 7 of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The show is slated to launch in early 2009, but if you haven’t been keeping track of Leon, Cheryl, Jeff or the rest of the gang, you can re-watch Season 6.
Take a look at HBO’s schedule to catch some repeats.
Here’s one of my favorite scenes:

Kind Nugs and Good Tunes
October 16th, 2008 by PerryThis little YouTube gem has a great 90’s hip hop stoner soundtrack and some video footage of kind bud. Oh, and look, they even used our medical marijuana review photography with our watermarks left untouched.
Aww, our hearts swoon.
Parents: Beware of Heavy Metal and Vanishing Visine
October 15th, 2008 by PerryWho says we can’t learn a lot from the 80s?
This classic anti-drug footage from the Reagan era shows that the war on drugs was (at least) a little more honest in their approach, although no less entertaining in retrospect.
My favorite part, when she started smoking pot, the music changed. It went from pop-rock to heavy metal. And I could never find any Visine bottles; of course nobody knew where they went.
