High: The True Tale of American Marijuana
November 18th, 2008 by PerryNovember 18th is the DVD release date for High: The True Tale of American Marijuana.
I know you’re probably thinking, “ugh, another marijuana documentary,” but don’t be so quick to judge, you might enjoy the film.
Yes it’s propaganda, but there seems to be a little more validity for pro-marijuana material because its aimed at the spread of information and tolerance, not disinformation and persecution.
This particular story has some interesting first and second-hand accounts of people caught up in the drug war, or who had their lives ruined by it. I’m sure there’s some footage in this film you haven’t seen in a dozen other weed documentaries. Sometimes it’s important to put faces and emotions next to the issue, instead of just numbers and history lessons.
Check out a quick trailer above or go to High’s website for more information (and a pretty cool blog).
Rolling Stone Covers Mexican Drug War
November 4th, 2008 by Alex
NOTE: Turns out this video auto-loads and plays, and that’s not good for our slow bandwidth brethren. The post image is now a screenshot of the video, which you can see after the jump.
Here’s a video of Guy Lawson, a rather contentious reporter for magazines such as Rolling Stone and GQ, explaining the literal drug war that is being waged in Mexico.
We’ve covered this violence before, but never in such depth and with such impact as the Rolling Stone video.
It helps us understand how the political and social climates of our neighbors can be of great importance here at home. Additionally, it really makes you appreciate the difference between living in the United States and the rest of the world.

The Union: Award Winning Documentary
October 30th, 2008 by AlexHere’s a riveting trailer for a documentary called The Union: The Business Behind Getting High.
Directed by Brett Harvey, this movie has won multiple film festival awards in Canada, and has some pretty biting insight into the industry behind keeping marijuana illegal. Pharmaceutical companies, private prisons, the government, and other entities all profit from the persecution of one of the world’s most useful plants.
Other than the impressive content, check out just a few of the heavy hitters interviewed for this documentary:
- Tommy Chong - you know who he is
- Joe Rogan - one of the coolest dudes alive
- Marc Emery - the Prince of Pot
- Steve Bloom - our friend at CelebStoner
- Ed Rosenthal - the grow expert
- Craig X - well known marijuana activist
- And over 20 more…
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to see The Union yet, but I’m going to get in contact with the production crew and request a copy. I’m really looking forward to checking it out.
Support The Union at their CafePress store or check out some of their press & awards.

420 The Movie
May 3rd, 2007 by Alex
The first teasers for 420 The Movie have become available and, by all appearances, the project looks awesome.
Not to be confused with 420, which was written and directed by Jon Lyons in 2004. This movie brings in many of the heavy hitters from past and present day marijuana culture.
To name a few:
- Willie Nelson
- Ed Rosenthal
- Jack Herer
- Snoop Dogg
- Cheech Marin
- Tommy Chong
- Woody Harrelson
- Dennis Hopper
Not exactly a list of lightweights is it? Still, that’s just a sampling of the many people involved with this production.
So, go visit the 420 homepage to see a hi-res version of their brand new trailer, or view a YouTube version after the jump.
Jesse Ventura’s America
April 4th, 2007 by AlexThis short clip from Jesse Ventura’s America show gives us an interesting, if not well-scripted, take on what an alien would see if they came down to observe the human species’ drinking and smoking behavior. More specifically, the hypocrisy that is apparent from an objective, alien perspective.
Mr. Ventura is a documented medical marijuana supporter, so anyone jumping to the conclusion that he’s just tackling a high-profile topic for some positive PR is mistaken. Check out a short bio and his emphatic endorsement towards the use of medicinal pot.
Anyone disagree with his observations? Let us know.
T.H. Seeds: The Leafblower
March 28th, 2007 by AlexFor anyone who dreams of going to a Cannabis Cup and the wondrous activities that may await there, this video is for you.
T.H. Seeds take a little bit of McGyver style know-how and combine it with the anniversary edition of their high-quality strain HP 13.
I’ve been smoked out plenty of times, but these guys take the phrase literally and proceed to decimate a large number of people with their potent buds. On top of that, you get to see and hear a few choice pieces of knowledge from one of the most respected seed banks in the world.
Cocaine Cowboys
March 9th, 2007 by AlexDuring the 80s, Colombian drug lords invaded Miami determined to control the trade by whatever means necessary. It’s what put the city on the map. Cocaine Cowboys is based on a true story of how Miami became the drug, murder, and cash capital of the US, recounted by the folk who made it all happen.
It’s a full-length feature film, nearly two hours long. And boy if you love stereotypes, this movie’s got ‘em. So if this sounds like something that might interest you, watch it. If not, just put it on during a party… I’m sure it’ll capture somebody’s attention.
