Overall, the initial unwrapping of the packaging left me slightly dumbfounded on how I was going to roll with this dry-as-hell leaf. Yet, despite having some bad luck with this selection, I wouldn’t mind trying another Kingpin.

Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos

Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos

After receiving many messages from you guys to do more back-to-the-basics tobacco wrap reviews, we caved in. So today I present the good ol’ Swisher Sweets: Cigarillos. These tiny cigars come in handy quite often for me. I enjoy the taste, smell, and you don’t have to use all your bud filling them.

Pros Great taste
Cons Tricky to roll

Another great thing about these cigarillos is that almost every gas station in California has them… correction, almost every gas station in the entire US have them, so they’re easily accessible.

The mini cigars come in a wide range of flavors from plain to grape to strawberry. And these flavors make quite a difference when lit. One end of the cigarillo is heavily flavored so when smoking it gives your bud an even sweeter taste. However, before getting to the smoking part, first comes the tricky one. You don’t want to damage the little surface area you have, so take your time. An experienced blunt roller should have no problem rolling one of these within minutes, ready to smoke.

I wasn’t big into Swisher Sweets in the beginning but damn it, they wear on you. They’re great for a one to three person session and they usually hold a decent amount of bud if needed.

True Blunt: Sweet Cherry

True Blunt: Sweet Cherry

True Blunts is a brand that we are going to feature more often on tFS. Their line has expanded in recent months, and with the addition of celebrity endorser Warren G, expect them to make a splash. Today, I’m reviewing the Sweet Cherry flavor.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company True Blunts
Made In Mexico
Pros On-point smell
Cons Nothing stands out
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 7.0/10

While all the major players make their wraps bigger and bigger, True Blunts has taken a different route from other manufacturers in terms of product size. The aim has been to keep theirs manageable and the perfect size for a personal blunt. In this, they’ve succeeded.

The wrap itself smells very similar to cherries. This is by far its strongest asset. Everything else kind of drops off afterwards. The wrap taste and texture is solid, but not amazing. There’s no flavor added and no scents added to your smoke. These wraps to burn at a nice pace and the smoke had a definite smoothness to it.

Juicy Blunts: Tropical Passion

Juicy Blunts: Tropical Passion

It might be the completely wrong time of the year to think about tropical breezes and island-grown fruit, but something’s got to brighten up the day of all our New York readers.

Today, I’m reviewing Juicy Blunts Tropical Passion flavored blunt wrap.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Blunts
Company ZenSmoke
Made In Dominican Republic
Pros Consistent leaf quality
Cons Nothing done well
Price $1.00
tFS Rating 6.5/10

By now, our regular readers should know that all Juicy Blunts come with a tapered edge for improved leaf adhesion. They also share the same manufacturing process, which results in consistently high quality wraps. What Juicy doesn’t do is put the same effort into researching and executing each flavor. To be honest, tropical passion doesn’t live up to its namesake.

The aroma for this wrap was extremely hard to pinpoint. After a lot of debate, it was decided that tropical passion really means sweet cantaloupe. Still, it almost seems that Juicy threw too many scents into this batch and ended up with a very indistinct overall impression.

Tropical Passion provides no leaf taste, smoke taste or smoke aroma. There are quite a few other JB wraps that come to mind before I would recommend this one.

If you’re going to do an exotically-themed blunt wrap, get it right, because the market is already full of them. It’s like bringing a Mustang to a parking lot full of Ferraris… you won’t stand out.

SmokeClear: King Size

February 9th, 2007 by Alex

###

The cellulose paper industry is starting to take off. Not only are they healthier for you, but everyone is still in love with the novelty of see-thru papers. Today, we’re starting off with a review of SmokeClear King Size papers.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Papers
Company SmokeClear
Made In Brazil
Pros Perfect burn time
Cons Hard to find
Price $3.00
tFS Rating 8.5/10

As hard as it is to find a socially responsible company, SmokeClear is setting the industry standard in environmentalism. Recycled paper is used for packaging and office supplies. Soy & vegetable inks are used for printing. There are absolutely zero chemicals added to SmokeClear products and they are also biodegradable.

Packaging on these appears to be higher quality than aLeda’s. The tabs fit together correctly, for a tight seal that won’t unlock in your backpack. They should be stored in a cool, dry place should you want to leave them for a while.

The leaves themselves are 95% transparent and carry the other traits of cellulose papers - odorless, tasteless and low-key design. Each pack comes with 40 papers that measure 3.5×11 centimeters. If you’re unsure of how plant cellulose feels, imagine a very thin & light plastic film.

The first thing you notice when rolling with the king size is that these suckers are strong. Seriously strong. Each film even passed the dreaded karate chop test, which tells you these things are built to last. When smoked, the performed exactly as advertised with absolutely no taste or odor.

These papers allow you to focus on what’s being smoked, with no interference along the way. When a product delivers exactly what it promises in the first place, you have no choice but to be satisfied. These are the best transparent, cellulose papers that I’ve encountered so far.

Hello Neighbor: Vanilla Nut

February 1st, 2007 by Tim

Hello Neighbor: Vanilla

Back in college, I lived in a dorm and had a tough time smoking in my room without everyone on my floor catching wind. I’d try different things like standing near my window or taking a laundry sheet, stuffing in a toilet paper roll and exhaling out of that. Too bad none of those tricks worked. So every time I wanted to smoke, I’d have to go to the car and hotbox or leave school grounds (which was a bitch.)

Company Hello Neighbor

Pros Tastes decent
Cons Doesn’t work well
Price $7.00
tFS Rating 2.5/10

Several years later, I discovered the Hello Neighbor Smoke & Odor Neutralizer and initially was kind of pissed that I didn’t know about it sooner. Their tagline “A Breath of Fresh Air” gives an impression that the product doesn’t suck. The blow-thru device itself is a 100% non-toxic, personal air freshener and comes in many different flavors. The one we’re testing out today is Vanilla Nut.

This chapstick-sized device has a pink tip on its end. In standard conditions, the Hello Neighbor works decently. It dissipates the strong scents of tobacco and marijuana as you exhale but doesn’t get rid of the odors completely. At first, the vanilla nut smell is there but it fades very quickly and is non-existent for the majority of the odor neutralizer’s life.

I think it’s funny that a product like this even exists when there’s not one, but two sources of smoke and odor that need to be successfully removed. Sure, its aim is the smoke you exhale, but what about the smoke rising from your blunt or cherry in the bowl? This basically defeats any purpose the Hello Neighbor serves in the first place.

Overall, this product is pointless, whatever you’re smoking will give off a scent or smell. If you really need to be that low key, just go for a walk and take some of the stress out from smoking. Just don’t count on this thing to be stealthy.

Kingpin: Chocolate Mint

January 30th, 2007 by Tim

Mr. Nice

Many blunt manufacturers use straws, plastic wrap, sealed packaging or any combination of the three to keep fresh and safe guard their wraps. Still, there’s no protection in your pocket or if you accidentally sit on them.

The blunt wrap that’s taken packaging to another level is the Kingpin Premium Blunt. Today I’m reviewing the Chocolate Mint flavor.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Category Papers
Company ZenSmoke
Made In Philippines
Pros Burn very smooth
Cons No taste added
Price $1.50
tFS Rating 8.0/10

As you can tell, Kingpin’s come sealed in a hard-plastic tube, very similar to Cyclones. The tube can be used as a finished blunt holder for concerts/events or even as a snuffer.

The leaf itself is wrapped around a straw with plastic wrap between the folds. Packaging just doesn’t get more solid than this.

Kingpins smoke much better than I expected. At first, I thought this was an unwrapped Cyclone, but I was 100% wrong. The chocolate mint smell is definitely present on the wrap. There is also a strong tobacco odor from the leaf itself, which makes the mint more subdued than it normally would be.

The rolling process was extremely easy as Zensmoke built in a tapered (thinner) edge to the wraps. Once lit, these things go down smooth. Very smooth. There isn’t any flavor added to the smoke or much of an aroma given off, but that’s Ok. The best part about Kingpins is their slow, even burn.

I was impressed by this wrap and look forward to reviewing more.
