The Global Marijuana March 2007

The Global Marijuana March is coming. Saturday, May 5th 2007, mark your calendars!

The Prince of Pot himself, Marc Emery has been invited to lead The 2007 Global Marijuana March in Toronto, Ontario. Since the event is scheduled for world-wide exposure, the march will take place in more than 233 cities across the planet. The goals of the rallies are to raise awareness and demand the legalization of marijuana, for good.

Others attendees such as Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams will host another march located in Vancouver, BC. Their names may sound a little familiar because they (including Marc Emery) are fighting against US extradition for selling cannabis seeds for nearly ten years. If convicted, they potentially face life sentences. Extradition hearings begin May 28th, 2007 – find out what you can do to help the BC3.

Come out and support our culture!

Colombian Drug Cartel: Driver Wanted

Cocalombia

Since we’re already on the subject, here is one more photoset of another large cocaine bust.

In Colombia, a place not known for its traffic safety, a ton of cocaine was discovered after the truck transporting it crashed. It must be a nice day for police officers to have 2,000+ pounds of coke just fall into your lap like that.

You know that heads were rolling in someone’s bodega after a screw up of that proportion.

Cocaine Seizure at Sea Makes History

Coca Bust

The day of and the days leading up to 4/20 typically create their own bounty of both pro and anti-marijuana press. This weekend was, however, a definite change of pace.

Cocaine news flooded the airwaves when the largest bust in maritime history was discovered.

Off the shores of Panama, the Coast Guard discovered about ~30,000 pounds of cocaine heading north on a 330-foot ship. When officers boarded the ship, they discovered the shipments hidden in two containers. This bust alone had a street value close to $450 million.

Earlier in the month, two other sea-based busts took place. One where a Coast Guard cutter chased down a speedboat with 2,000 pounds worth of yeyo. Another when 900 pounds of coke was found on an Ecuadorian fishing vessel. They were caught trying to offload the goods onto speedboats off the coast of Mexico.

Overall, a bad weekend for Tony Montana and crew.

Estate LA: 4.20 Fitted Caps

I know we’re a little late to the party on this one, but it’s still worth mentioning. Strictly Fitteds tipped everyone off to these seasonal specials from Estate LA.

To quote SF’s original post:

ESTATE LA presents their 420 limited series fitted baseball caps in Sour Diesel and Kush flavors.

These will be available for purchase at 4:20 am on 4/20/07 on www.estatela.com and also at 4:20 pm at FITTED HAWAII (That’s 4:20 in their respective time zones folks). Only 52 pieces total were produced, so you know what to do.

Too bad we weren’t able to clue everyone in on this deal sooner, I’d love to see a pic of one of our readers with those on.

The timing is actually right on point with this drop, as both Sour Diesel and Kush have been making the heavy rounds these past few weeks.

Still I’m thinking both hats should be different shades of green, and maybe something like this come on the purple fitted.

Snuggles Smuggles Weed

Hopefully, everyone read the Easter Grass article late last week.

It’s pretty impressive when people completely screw up at drug dealing, even when they prepare for police encounters. All Ian Lawrence had to do was drive legally. Assuming he wouldn’t be able to pull that off, he hid his weed in a damn Easter bunny.

The plan was flawless. The execution? Not quite as on point…

If you’re going to hide weed in your car, don’t leave some on the back seat. Oh and while you’re at it, try to take some preventative measures from having the entire car reek like dank. Police officers can be slow at times, but they’re not complete morons.

On top of the driving related charges against Ian, he was also tagged with possession of marijuana, operating a drug factory and possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school.

Ah well, at least Snuggles has been released from a life of servitude.

Dumbass Gets DUI on Horseback

Although this wasn’t the first time, it’s always surprising to read about when traffic offenses and four-legged animals interact.

Melissa Byrum York, a drunk redneck Sylvania, Alabama resident, was charged with a DUI for riding her horse while intoxicated.

After riding in traffic and causing cars to avoid her, police were called into the equation. Feeling like there was more to be done, Melissa decided to evade police capture in style by ramming the police car with her horse while trying to escape.

Too bad she got her feet caught in the stirrups while trying to jump off the horse and run. Eh, not so smooth.

After being cuffed and searched, police found some of that magical riding powder known as crystal meth accompanied by some weed, pills and a pipe.

What a surprise that someone out drunkenly riding a horse in the middle of the night through city streets might have a small drug and a large reasoning problem.

Congratulation Melissa, you’re our first Official Dumbass of the Month.

Keith Richards Combines Dad, Blow

It takes something really unique to make me do a double take on a drug-related article. Well, Keith Richards, congratulations. You got me.

Quoted from the UK music mag, NME, Richards said:

The strangest thing I’ve tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father…

He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared… It went down pretty well, and I’m still alive.

I don’t know what’s worse, having a mental picture of Keith actually mixing his dad with some of Columbia’s finest or just staring at this picture.

Keith Richards isn’t even human anymore, he looks like a salvaged 1950’s leather car seat with a skeleton crammed inside. I guess this puts to rest the notion that all guys who rock mustaches are badass.

New Mexico Approves Medical Marijuana

Posted: April 3rd, 2007 @ 10:15am (1 year, 4 months ago) by Alex Filed Under: News
###

Today is a good day to live in New Mexico.

The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act, otherwise known as Senate Bill 523, was signed into law on Monday, April 2nd.

This will positively affect the lives of thousands of sufferers who can use medicinal marijuana to improve their day-to-day lives. I know that NORML has been lobbying hard for this one, and they finally got the reward.

This bill not only legislates a medical marijuana program, which will be run by the state Department of Health, but also “protects medical cannabis patients from arrest and state criminal prosecution.”

Although this bill does not allow patients to grow their own medical marijuana, it is a positive step no matter how you look at it.

Get the full breakdown over at NORML, and if you’re in New Mexico make sure to thank Governor Bill Richardson for his unwavering support.

Pot Grow Op Histeria

Posted: April 3rd, 2007 @ 2:20am (1 year, 4 months ago) by Alex Filed Under: News, Photos
###

All over the country, grow houses are garnering more widespread public attention than ever before.

A recent explosion of high-end, indoor grow ops have been raided and shut down by various law enforcement agencies across the US.

Some may say this proves the growing trend that well-financed drug rings are using expensive, innocuous locations to produce mass quantities of marijuana. Perhaps. Or, maybe the police are just now starting to catch on?

News stories published left and right are aimed at not only informing the public, but also at making them unwitting tools of the police.

Each article has pushed the angle of danger and suspicion - evil marijuana growers lurking in the shadows under honest, hard-working citizens very noses.

###

The AP has even released this amazingly helpful list of how to spot a “marijuana farm”:

  • There are guard dogs, “Keep Out” signs or other security.
  • Electrical outlets may be rigged to divert power from neighboring homes.
  • The windows are often covered and the blinds drawn. There may be excessive condensation around the windows.
  • The houses are largely unoccupied. People stop by periodically to mow the lawn or do other chores, then leave.
  • In winter, after a snowfall, the house may be the lone home on the block with no snow on the roof. (Heat from the lights often melts the snow.)

According to this criteria, everyone who lives in Beverly Hills is operating a massive indoor pot factory. I need to call the police right now!

Even though I am making light of this situation, the use of paranoia through mass media is a very effective self-policing tactic. I’m sure that tip lines all the way from Georgia to California are ringing off the hook, and that’s just the way the narcs want it to be.

For more pics of various busted grow ops, read on.

Toxicity of Illicit Substances

Posted: March 30th, 2007 @ 8:36am (1 year, 5 months ago) by Alex Filed Under: News
###

An interesting article from the American Scientist was published that discusses the ratio of a fatal does to effective dose of almost all the illicit drugs on the market today.

It’s a thought-provoking concept that gives you a visual understanding of the toxicity of many of the drugs we consume today.

As you can see, alcohol is a lot more toxic than most people realize, while marijuana is as non-toxic a substance as you’ll ever come across.

Let’s see what the article has to say on this subject:

The least physiologically toxic substances, those requiring 100 to 1,000 times the effective dose to cause death, include psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, when ingested. I’ve found no published cases in the English language that document deaths from smoked marijuana, so the actual lethal dose is a mystery. My surmise is that smoking marijuana is more risky than eating it but still safer than getting drunk.

A simple ratio such as this exposes a large problem in the United States, the least toxic substance know to man is now illegal, and the major cause behind the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

I wonder how long simple, scientific evidence such as this is going to be ignored?
