July 3rd, 2009 by Erin

Okay, to clear things up before we begin; this is not a top #number movie list. This is simply a list of personal favorite movies I think every herb enthusiast should see once, if not add to their library. Moreover, I’ve also included my favorite accompanying strain and smoking method for each of the selections.

Pineapple Express

  • Favorite Character: Saul Silver
  • Favorite Strain: Pineapple Express (if available) or anything citrusy. Cali Orange, Lemon Diesel, etc.
  • Preferred Method: Joint

Strain FAQ

March 27th, 2009 by Alex

  1. Where can I find the bud you review?
  2. Why does my Sour Diesel look different than your Sour Diesel?
  3. Why can’t I find that strain at the price you paid?
  4. How do you go about getting the tFS Rating?
  5. Why do you have a 1st Impression AND a Final Verdict?
  6. Are you high when you write these reviews?
  7. What can I do if I disapree with your review?

1) Where can I find the bud you review?

As of right now, you need to be located in Southern California and a member of the dispensaries that tFS staff visit to acquire reviewed strains. We are working on a more-than-solid solution to this problem, so stay tuned for future announcements.

2) Why does my Sour Diesel look different than your Sour Diesel?

The world of strains is not a uniform place. What Grower A calls Sour Diesel, Grower B might not. Names, strains, appearances and effects can all vary from place to place, unfortunate but true.

In most cases, if someone is trying to pass off a strain that looks nothing like the ones found on tFS, then there’s an issue. We only purchase medical strains from reputed, professional dispensaries.

3) Why can’t I find that strain at the price you paid?

Again, it all depends where you go. Prices vary widely from dispensary to dispensary. The further away you are from strong distribution areas, the more likely your costs will be higher.

4) How do you go about getting the tFS Rating?

The tFS Rating is a scale that aggregates scores for look, feel, taste, smell, medicative properties, and … stony-ness. It’s not an exact science, but after 1+ years of publicly available reviews, we feel that our opinions and comments will hold up. As always, we try to be completely objective and keep our readers and their satisfaction in mind.

If you disagree, feel free to start a healthy discussion in the comments section of that specific review.

5) Why do you have a 1st Impression AND a Final Verdict?

Strains can fool you sometimes. They can be either showers or sleepers, so it’s always good to understand the first impression (which can be either great or bad) as well as the final verdict (which figures out if our initial perception of the strain is really how it performs).

6) Are you high when you write these reviews?

No. At least, I hope not. Actually, look for the reviews that ramble on. There’s a solid chance whoever wrote that was high.

7) What can I do if I disagree with one of your reviews?

Feel free to post any and all opinions in the comments section of that specific review (as long as they aren’t derogatory). Or, buy theFreshScent for $1,000,000,000 and change it yourself.

Forbes Surprises with Weed Slideshow

May 4th, 2007 by Tim

I wonder what the Vegas odds were on this.

Here we have a slideshow put together by Forbes magazine showing us their take on “The Most Exotic Brands of Weed.”

While at first we were cautiously reluctant to embrace a story like this from Forbes, we got to looking and it ain’t half-bad. Some of the strains they’ve chosen have even graced the pages of tFS, like OG Kush and Sour Diesel.

Still, what do we say Forbes sticks with their “World’s Richest People” lists and leaves the strain reviews to the experts.

Estate LA: 4.20 Fitted Caps

I know we’re a little late to the party on this one, but it’s still worth mentioning. Strictly Fitteds tipped everyone off to these seasonal specials from Estate LA.

To quote SF’s original post:

ESTATE LA presents their 420 limited series fitted baseball caps in Sour Diesel and Kush flavors.

These will be available for purchase at 4:20 am on 4/20/07 on www.estatela.com and also at 4:20 pm at FITTED HAWAII (That’s 4:20 in their respective time zones folks). Only 52 pieces total were produced, so you know what to do.

Too bad we weren’t able to clue everyone in on this deal sooner, I’d love to see a pic of one of our readers with those on.

The timing is actually right on point with this drop, as both Sour Diesel and Kush have been making the heavy rounds these past few weeks.

Still I’m thinking both hats should be different shades of green, and maybe something like this come on the purple fitted.

Medical Marijuana: Sour Diesel

Medical Marijuana: Sour Diesel

One thing I have to say about this Sour Diesel is don’t under estimate it! For only $20 a gram this is a powerful sativa/indica breed. Sour diesels have always been a crowd pleaser and now I know why.

theFreshScent Product Recap
Strain Sour Diesel
Type Sativa/Indica Hybrid
Pros Intense head/chest high
Cons Short lasting
Price $20/g, $65/8th
tFS Rating 8.0/10

The leaves are sticky with a heavy dusting of crystals. The purple isn’t very evident but the green is nice and intense in each bud. There is a medium-high skunky smell. Right from the smell you know this strain has something to prove. It hits hard in the face and stays in the chest area and lasts for at least a good hour and a half.

This bud packs a powerful punch so be careful. However, I recommend putting on some beats (Rza – Afro Samurai is a good choice,) sit back, and let it do its job!

I greatly enjoyed this strain and for the price it is a solid purchase. You definitely can’t go wrong with this find. If spotted, grab it!

The East Coast Gets Ripped Off for Pot

December 19th, 2006 by Alex

Too much.

Yesterday, Gawker posted an article titled, $560 Per Oz. Pot “Most Expensive In City History?”

Now, it shouldn’t surprise most people that certain people in the marijuana business are highly familiar with the metric system. They’re also not too shabby at math. Why? Pot is big business and the numbers involved can make you rich.

So, when reading about $560/oz for marijuana, I couldn’t help but take some notice. Gawker talks about the original article in a newspaper and then asks readers for verification of the pricing. Their update included this quote:

Just for the record, most weed of this caliber sells for $600 an ounce an up all day long. Tell ya the truth $560 is a good deal. You could buy that, sell 1.5g’s for $50 and still turn a profit and get yourself some free bong hits. (The math: you get 18 1.5g’s from a standard 28g oz. 18 x $50=$900 …. 900gross-560cost=$340 profit per ounce) Same with Diesel, another popular brand. And it’s not called Purple Haze, it’s just Haze, what dipshits. Not to mention, it’s the Kush that is killing shit right now, selling for upwards of $8k a pound. Not that I would be an expert of anything, just sayin’.

###
See that bolded sentence? $560/oz for pot is a good deal?! Maybe in the East Coast, but sure as hell not on the West Coast. Sour Diesel (the cream of the crop & right up there with Kush) is selling for $30 a gram, $75 an 1/8th, $135 a 1/4 and $250 a 1/2 ounce.

That totals out to $840, $600, $540 and $500 respectively. And that’s retail, not wholesale. You can get better prices than that with a hookup. If you want to drop down a little, it approaches $320-350 an ounce for high quality buds.

Bottom Line: If you’re paying $560/oz for weed, you’re getting ripped off.
