New Hampshire Ready for Medical Marijuana?

June 25th, 2009 by Rick

New Hampshire State Capitol

New Hampshire is trying to become the 14th medical marijuana state as their state legislature passed a bill on Wednesday that would allow chronically ill patients to seek treatment using medical marijuana. The bill is now on it’s way to the Governor.

Governor John Lynch isn’t like those other drones that blindly follow the drumbeat of the neo-cons and drug warriors. He actually wants to study the bill before he signs it into a law.

One of the smart things that the legislature had done was ensure that patients nor caregivers could grow the marijuana, instead “compassion centers” or non-profit medical marijuana dispensaries will be organized.

Will New Hampshire learn from California’s mistakes? They already seemingly have, by limiting those that can “game the system.”

This is the right way to set up medical marijuana laws. Very restrictive and goes out to the poeple who really need it, not this i cant sleep sometimes so can i smoke pot and grow a field of 25 plants BS like California. Good for NH.

Lemme throw my $.02 in: While I’ll be the first one to admit that California’s system is kinda fucked up, you have to understand that Cali was the first state to introduce a Medical Marijuana law; and as is always the case when you’re doing something for the first time, you won’t get everything perfect and there will need to be tweaks made in the future. W/o Prop 215, none of the other states in the Union would probably even have had the balls to try anything associated with allowing citizens, sick or not, access to marijuana. The West, more often than not California, is always first (the guinea pig) when it comes to “testing the waters” on issues that may not run parallel to the status quo. Also, most “compassion centers” have outrageously-priced medicine that makes it difficult to afford for the people that really need it the most. Growing-Your-Own can be much cheaper than buying your medicine from a dispensary. The problem in California is not that people are allowed to grow, as you both stated… The problem is that there are no clear-set guidelines in place. Also, @ Patrick: Sleep apnea/Insomnia is a serious health concern, which I have been dealing with my whole life, and Medical Cannabis is a great way to catch some “Zzz’s.” I understand what you’re saying about people trying to get a medical marijuana recommendation by using a shitty run-of-the-mill excuse that they may not even have in the first place, but if someone does indeed have an actual problem with their health, and marijuana can help relieve any of a person’s health issues, and with fewer toxic agents/chemicals (healthier), then I believe that they should not be turned away from the benefit of using a natural product like cannabis as a medicine, no matter how acute or life-threatening it may be. Besides, isn’t the point of The Movement to make sure that anyone who wants access to MJ can do so without gov./legal interference?
