PSA: Above the Influence – Achievements

April 14th, 2009 by Tracii

I let people draw on me.

Oh, the horrors of teenage drug addiction.

Looks like the folks at Partnership for a Drug-Free America are having a hard time finding effective ammo for the war machine on marijuana.

Since learning that pot doesn’t kill brain cells or cause any of the other atrocities once tied to it, drug warriors have resorted to increasingly desperate measures to deter people from using it. The result? Gems like the one seen above, that provide nothing more than a hearty laugh for stoners and others with common sense.

But it’s not all fun and games. Between 1998 and 2006, taxpayers spent $1.4 billion on America’s anti-marijuana ad campaign. That’s billion, with a ‘b.’ Quite a hefty sum considering that a 5-year study released in 2006 by the Government Accountability Office concluded the campaign was not only ineffective but even encouraged drug use in some cases.

Now I’m no scientist, but I’d like to see the evidence linking overzealous text messaging to marijuana use. There’s already a name for that — it’s called drunk dialing. All the other so-called “achievements” in the ad are things teenagers do anyway and could be blamed on underage drinking or prescription painkiller abuse for that matter. Good luck getting an organization funded by the alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical industries to mention any of that.

Oh well, at least the background music is catchy, “The Hustle.” Keeping up with the times I see.

they clearly dont target young mj users. they go for the parents. because thats the only group they still can reach.

sick stuff. no doubt about it.

but if you want to see some really messed up government adds….check THAT out.

you’ll have to get past the commercials tho. because even if they think we are sick, confused morons…they still try to sell us airline tickets….
    …out of the country

    here’s the full website.

Ugh, that IS messed up. The sad thing is there are so many young people who actually buy into this crap, even if it is aimed at parents. Total fucktardery.

These commercials make me want to shit my pants laughing every time I see them. I actually started writing an angry letter to that company but I think I got stoned and forgot about it.

In any case, none of their commercials show fact – because there are no bad facts to tell about marijuana! They can’t tell you that it kills you, because it definitely doesn’t. All they can do is pretend like MJ is a de-motivator. Personally, I’ve never made my mother cry, I got all As and Bs in school, I’ve never bailed on my friends unless they deserved it, and I’m pretty sure guy who called his ex 14 times was knockin’ back a few…

    Give it up!

Why aren’t they targeting the non pot smokers who are going around drawing on everyone’s faces. Not cool at all. they’re the one’s with the problem.

“I let people draw on me.”

I’ve literally been at a party where alcohol was in abundance, and watched a kid get way too drunk and passed, and then people drew all over him.

Here’s me response: “I opened my mind and found out everything. What has marijuana done for you?”

This reminds me of one of my older posts: http://thefreshscent.com/2007/02/01/just-say-no-to-new-anti-drug-psas/

Above the Influence, still pushing ridiculous PSAs…

The fact is marijuana affects everyone differently… I’m sure all of you can attest to experiences of that from friends that you were around when smoking. It has a lot to do with the strength of the mind. Some people become completely paranoid or can’t help laughing and smiling and yet others become relaxed and more creative. You can use it for recreation and fun or use it to open your mind and enhance ideas. There’s a reason it’s been around since the dawn of time and that other civilizations and cultures openly embraced this sacred plant.

Why is it that above the influence only has anti-pot comercials.. Except maybe 1 other one on prescription drugs.. What about heroin? meth? alocohol? cocaine? shit even huffing spray paint is more damaging then smoking buds. It’s funny because in my experience all the reasons they give to not smoke are the reasons I don’t drink or pop pills anymore (or both at the same time).
