Aussies Create Internet Drug Network

January 28th, 2009 by Perry

Australian Social Network

Using a social-networking site, Australians have created a way to monitor and exchange information about the international drug market. One of the first things it led to was a realization of how high a price the largest island nation was paying for drugs.

Among a few of the prices listed in US Dollars ($):

  • Weed: ~15/gram; ~40/eighth; ~70/quarter
  • Speed: ~50/2.5pts; ~100/half gram; ~180/gram; ~500/8Ball
  • Ice: ~100/2.5pts; ~200/half gram; ~400/gram
  • Heroin: ~50/street cap
  • Ecstasy: ~20/pill; ~100/5 pills; ~160/10 pills; ~900/100 pills
  • GHB: ~3.50/a mil

The forum also has several rules about what you can and can’t say to keep this cyber operation on the narrow edge of what’s considered legal in the land down unda.

70 a quarter?!? Damn, maybe I should risk skin cancer and move there. I’m used to getting an 8th for 60-65..

i don’t understand why they have to pay that much for weed.

there must be plenty of space to grow. and the climate is perfect, too. why would weed be so expensive? if anything, i would expect australia to be a major producer of marijuana. and therefore a country where weed costs next to nothing.

this really comes as big surprise to me, and i actually reconsider building my villa there. hell, i may even pull my yacht out of sidney harbor.

    :D

Those weed prices are definitely in aussie dollars. In melbourne no-one I know pays more than $A80 (around $50 USD) for a quarter. a nifty (3 – 3.5 grams) is $A50 or $30 USD. Also what is the site for this forum? no link in the article…

@mitchy – I performed some extensive searching and came up with little to no results as to which forum the source article is referring to. I’ll continue to look but if anyone knows, drop it here.

Regarding the type of currency, it remains inconclusive but since the website is Aussie-based I presume they’re talking about Aussie dollars, so I made adjustments. Thanks mitchy.
