Medical Marijuana: Grand Daddy Purple

minimize
I know you’ve all been waiting for tFS Reviews to come back, and we’re happy to drop our first of 2008, so let’s jump straight into the fire.
One thing I’m sure you’ll notice is our new tFS Summary Card. It was designed with giving you an ‘At A Glance’ view of everything important about a strain. Also, you can minimize the summary card by clicking on the link in the top-right corner.
Ok, back to the star of the show…
This strain is called GDP and instantly reminds me of a personal favorite - Trainwreck. The bud is a light shade of green. It’s got more hairs than the average Sativa and is dusted with trichromes. You can tell this strain was cured correctly, GDP is crisp and the nug itself is nice and dense.
What’s interesting, is we found some purple leaves once the bud was broken open. Something I definitely didn’t expect, and makes me wonder about the heritage of this plant. Still, when ripped open, this bud looks killer.
If you’ve ever smoked Trainwreck, then you know its smell, totally unmistakable. GDP is very similar; it’s a light, sweet, citrus-y smell that makes your mouth water.
When smoked, GDP is smooth but doesn’t pack too much flavor. It can easily be overpowered by flavored papers or blunt wraps. The high starts in your shoulders and quickly moves up to the head, within 10 minutes of smoking. As time goes on, it radiates back down your body all the way to the lower extremities. Maybe that’s the purple heritage breaking through?
The high is outstanding - lasts long and doesn’t make you feel groggy. You won’t be doing any scientific experiments or anything, but it’s easy to function while this bud makes its presence known. Ping pong was a good call after our research was done.
Overall, considering the price, I was pleasantly surprised with GDP and am thinking about picking up some more next time I’m down in the valley.
Debating the Legality of Salvia
November 5th, 2008 by Perry
They’re already getting ready to ban Salvia in Ohio. The Ohio House of Representatives passed a bill in April to make the herb and its active ingredient controlled substances; the bill is stalled in committee in the Ohio Senate.
Several other states (including Missouri, North Dakota, Illinois, Delaware, Kansas and Florida,) already have laws on the books considering the hallucinogenic herb a controlled substance.
From dozens of first-hand reports, I’ve heard it lasts anywhere from two minutes to a half hour and the effects range from hallucination to temporary paralysis while “peaking” under this drug’s effect.
According to opponents, “the plant’s effects range from mild relaxation and visual hallucinations to a state where users can’t move or feel pain,” said Monica Mertens, program director for the Pathway Family Center in Milford. But even though it’s been used for centuries in Native American ritual, it’s not necessarily safe for recreational use and might need further study before making heads or tails of this one.
Lighting Up to Celebrate the News
November 5th, 2008 by PerryWhether you’re black, brown, yellow, white, all smokers love to celebrate good news the same way… by smoking. Great clip of the newscasters’ feigning disbelief at their on-the-scene reporter getting large whiffs of the green stuff inside the Century Plaza Hotel ballroom.
C’mon, don’t look so surprised guy, it’s L.A.
POTUS: Barack Obama
November 4th, 2008 by AlexI’ve seen a lot of political speeches. I’ve been deluded. I’ve been lied to. I’ve been told partial truths. I’ve heard promises that were never kept.
Tonight is the first time I can remember ever having the hint of a tear approach my eyes as I watched a President-elect accept a resounding victory.
I want to congratulate Barack Obama, not in the context of this blog, but in the context of hope & change that he offers the American people. After 8 years of mismanagement, it’s time to change the historical course of this great nation that we all love.
I also want to applaud John McCain for his gracious speech, and acknowledgement of the epic presidential campaign that he fell short in. I know it’s been hard, and caused more than enough family & friend arguments, but this is a period that the American public needs to endure in order to make our democracy stronger.
Let’s hope that Barack Obama delivers on the uplifting speech that Chicagoans were blessed with this evening.

Fiberglass, Submarines & Drugs
November 4th, 2008 by Alex
We all know the new hot fad in drug smuggling is homemade submarines, but have any of us ever seen one?
Well, here are two images fresh from the wire. A fiber glass submarine with 1.6 tons of cocaine was found and seized in southern Colombia. Good times.
One more after the jump…

Rolling Stone Covers Mexican Drug War
November 4th, 2008 by Alex
NOTE: Turns out this video auto-loads and plays, and that’s not good for our slow bandwidth brethren. The post image is now a screenshot of the video, which you can see after the jump.
Here’s a video of Guy Lawson, a rather contentious reporter for magazines such as Rolling Stone and GQ, explaining the literal drug war that is being waged in Mexico.
We’ve covered this violence before, but never in such depth and with such impact as the Rolling Stone video.
It helps us understand how the political and social climates of our neighbors can be of great importance here at home. Additionally, it really makes you appreciate the difference between living in the United States and the rest of the world.

Reefer Madness Sweeping Japan
November 4th, 2008 by Alex
Recent arrests for marijuana possession among Japan’s students (and other segments of society) has created a scandal that is rocking the country.
According to an article in The Guardian, one of Japan’s more progressive papers, The Mainichi Shimbun recently devoted a front page editorial on the topic that was:
Warning of the potential ruination of Japan’s finest universities by the evil weed.
Marijuana became a mainstream topic of discussion in the country after a couple Russian Sumo Wrestlers were banned from the sport for usage. Combine that with a record 2,423 marijuana violations in 2006, and you have a Japanese freak out in the making.
I doubt that even matches the total of L.A. arrests for pot last month. Japan currently has a ban on medical marijuana, and its equivalent of ‘possession with intent’ carries a term of up to 10 years.
Those wacky Japanese get up to so much other ridiculous shit, it’s kind of surprising they’re so serious about marijuana use.
Get Out and Vote, NOW!
November 4th, 2008 by PerryHere are the candidate’s stances on marijuana one final time in a bite-size, easily-consumable video. Additionally, this is also a reminder about the last time you have to think about voting for a while.
See you guys at the voting booth!
UPDATE: Thanks to Colin for getting us some backstory on the presidential decriminalization topic. It appears that Obama hasn’t always been rock steady in his opinions of legalization or decriminalization. MPP’s original, albeit short, video about Barack Obama can be found here.
Afterwards, a YouTube user by the name of MikeCANN created a response, showing quotes and other examples of Obama’s back & forth opinions - maybe angling to appease as many potential voters as possible. This video is embedded after the jump.
The MPP video that we have above is a more balanced version, and a direct response to MikeCANN’s efforts. On a side note, if you live in Boston, he books the music for the Boston Freedom Rally and has a ton of great videos on his profile page.
Thanks for the info Colin!
