The East Coast Gets Ripped Off for Pot

Yesterday, Gawker posted an article titled, $560 Per Oz. Pot “Most Expensive In City History?”

Now, it shouldn’t surprise most people that certain people in the marijuana business are highly familiar with the metric system. They’re also not too shabby at math. Why? Pot is big business and the numbers involved can make you rich.

So, when reading about $560/oz for marijuana, I couldn’t help but take some notice. Gawker talks about the original article in a newspaper and then asks readers for verification of the pricing. Their update included this quote:

Just for the record, most weed of this caliber sells for $600 an ounce an up all day long. Tell ya the truth $560 is a good deal. You could buy that, sell 1.5g’s for $50 and still turn a profit and get yourself some free bong hits. (The math: you get 18 1.5g’s from a standard 28g oz. 18 x $50=$900 …. 900gross-560cost=$340 profit per ounce) Same with Diesel, another popular brand. And it’s not called Purple Haze, it’s just Haze, what dipshits. Not to mention, it’s the Kush that is killing shit right now, selling for upwards of $8k a pound. Not that I would be an expert of anything, just sayin’.

See that bolded sentence? $560/oz for pot is a good deal?! Maybe in the East Coast, but sure as hell not on the West Coast. Sour Diesel (the cream of the crop & right up there with Kush) is selling for $30 a gram, $75 an 1/8th, $135 a 1/4 and $250 a 1/2 ounce.

That totals out to $840, $600, $540 and $500 respectively. And that’s retail, not wholesale. You can get better prices than that with a hookup. If you want to drop down a little, it approaches $320-350 an ounce for high quality buds.

Bottom Line: If you’re paying $560/oz for weed, you’re getting ripped off.

So lets do some simple math..If your bagging up at .7 you will have around 40bags(.7/28) 40 x $20=$800-(SUBTRACT MONEY YOU PUT IN 400-450)=400-350 Dollars. Well now lets not all forget this little thing called “time” If it takes you a week to push that oz off, great! you made 400-350 in a week you must have a great customer base. if it takes you 2 weeks? hmm now you just made 200 dollars per week..3 weeks? you get my point..The time you spend trying to make this money and the risks you take, its really not worth it. Main point..know what your getting into before you put down the bills.

I live in cali, i never spend more then 300 an oz for anything kush, SSH, Sensai, NL, GDP, OGK, AghfTranny(MMMmm), most this shit i get for 280, but i got a friend who supplies a few dispensaries, well im a friend of a friend, buts its the same if i get his prices. its insane what we spend here in a america, last year i went travelin around india, then to egypt, JESUS christ, got an ounce of some hash for less then 30 dollars( like 2800 rupees) this was in new delhi, they weed was alright and you could pretty much get anything cause its legal there, but i think california’s buds are way better then india, but we cant beat there taste, i dunno what it was but i miss it, there bud tastes so rich. you also cant fucking beat that price, it was funny cause i bought all that hash but had a hard time smoking it all in 3 days. off to cairo i went(two weeks later after traveling thru india longer) egypt has some fucking delicion oils, i had some Sud. I started smoking regularly about 5 years ago and like most people from the east coast i began with good old mids. Five years ago i would get a 2.0 for $10 and $20 for a fat 8th..and around 75 an ounce and 700 a pound. Up until 2005 high grade was very hard to come by and when it came the price tag was outrageous, the best weed i saw back then would have been some some piff or some kush. Beginning of 2006 i was blessed with meeting a new hookup who constantly had medicinal coming from california via new york, it was great but as any good dealer woud know, he could tax the hell out of people because of the shortage of the good weed around the area. He would have the skunks, the kush’s, the diesel, as well as the majority of the top name brand strains you’d see on the west coast. I would pick up assorted pounds (four different quaps, 2 different halfs, etc..) for around 6,000 but would easily flip it over a weekend and make a good 3 grand profit from it. I was pushing medical for about 2 years until i decided i needed to make a big move.. End of summer 2008 i decided to make the move to the west, but not all the way to california. I relocated to Tempe, Arizona. The bud scene out here is great! Being in a college town, there’s tons of kids constantly having good weed, and there’s quite a few people with club cards living in arizona as well. All main roads leaving cali and going to arizona have searches and stops but a simple “heading back to school” should get you through with no problem. I have noticed that with a hook up, $15 dollar grams are a regular price and it’s always ”Cronic” I have only been here for 2 months but have yet to smoke anything less than high grade. BUT BE CAREFUL! MARIJUANA IS A FELONY in Arizona, regardless of potency or weight. My main dealer in arizona is from souther california and has some really good hook ups, he let me tag along a few times and the trip is quite fun. As apposed to buying the over priced bud from the dispensary he goes straight to the owners of the shops and does side business with them, where he get’s pounds for no more than 4k. The highest priced ounce i’ve seen out here was for a zip of white widow and the price was 450. All in all, the bud is better out here but only if you dont know where to find it on the east coast!

These are real high quality genetics from known breeders; strains like Jack Herer, Lavender, Strawberry Diesel, Afghani #1, Super Silver Haze, NYC Diesel, Somango, Blueberry, etc. Prices everywhere vary because of supply and demand and the cost of living. We usually get shit from Canada, NYC, Mass, and ofcourse the homegrown selection here is pretty nice… but I very very rarely see prices like that. The only weed I know that runs that much is Jack Herer @ $70/8th (but I see weed on the reviews on here that run that much – e.g. Trainwreck. Normally we get White Widow, Trainwreck, Kush, Sour Diesel, etc. for $50-65 an eighth. So I can’t complain about the East Coast’s prices from personal experience :-D

Which means $400/28g= $14.29 per G. So if you have ever paid any more then that for an O, then you got ripped off. Besides alot of the pricing has to do with how far you are away from a grower connection wise. That is unless you’re shit is coming from a commercial operation which probably means prices are set.
