Why all the shenanigans with the boiling water and floaty butter? why not just chuck a heap of buds in a hefty cast iron pan fulla butter, cook it for an hour or so with the lid on - strain out the bud and then cool the butter back into a block… your butter is now green … bingo , same result , no water sillyness! :) if i was ever doing something like that i’d use all the shake from my plants, all the peanut size buds left over from harvest and a couple of top buds just for good measure, I think that’d be the best way of not having to compost all those lovely shade leaves after harvest …. probaly, someone might, somewhere. |

You use water. Or better yet a doubble boiler (my personal favorite) So you dont loose to much THC during the extraction. As we all know THC dissolves into the air at high temp. Thus the need for a doubble boiler or water added. So the heat wont be to direct. |

you also want to use water to prevent the butter from burning / scortching. if you don’t use water, it will. butter is not meant to be “simmered” almost by itself. it can’t. i didn’t watch the video, but when i’ve seen it done, you put the mj in some cheesecloth if you want your final product “clean” of debris. then, put in a pot = butter/water. bring to simmer for as many hours as you like, but at least 2-3. take cheesecloth mj out, dump water/infused butter into plastic container, place in refrigerator. after a couple of hours the butter will float to the top in a solid block. better to wait overnight. pop the butterblock out of the plastic and voila! |
