CDC Shows Progress Curbing Tobacco Usage
November 21st, 2008 by Perry
A report released by the Centers for Disease Control showed fewer Americans are smoking cigarettes than ever before.
The number of legal-aged residents smoking dropped below 20 percent of the population for the first time in more than 200 years of crusty lungs and smoky lounges.
The CDC actually points out the significant of its accomplishment thusly; in the past 40 years tens of millions of Americans have voluntarily quit smoking a legal, yet highly addictive intoxicant. They took a measured, informative approach that worked.
Comparatively, the government’s campaign against marijuana is failing. There are an estimated 2.5 million new users every year…
You’d think the incoming administration would notice the trend that truth sways people more affectively than scare tactic propaganda and adjust accordingly. Or, legalize and tax the damn plant so we can get some availability for adults and revenue for our economy.
Obama’s AG Choice Sends Mixed Signals
November 21st, 2008 by Perry
Many left-wing pundits are a little surprised by the signals, mixed or otherwise, sent by Obama’s choice for U.S. Attorney General - Eric Holder.
Tasked with setting the federal agenda for prosecution, many are shocked Obama went with a former prosecutor who has repeatedly called for stiffer sentences for drug users.
According to a December 1996 report in The Washington Times excerpted at TalkLeft, Holder wanted “minimum sentences of 18 months for first-time convicted drug dealers, 36 months for the second time and 72 months for every conviction thereafter.
The article in Reason does a pretty good job of summing up why so many are scared.
Holder’s record suggests he epitomizes the Clinton administration’s desperation to prove that a Democrat who used to smoke pot can too be tough on drugs—precisely the motivation that could make Obama just as bad on drug policy as the current administration, if not worse.
Coast Guard Goes Pot Fishing, Nets 5 Tons
November 21st, 2008 by PerryThat’s right, 10,000 lbs. of weed, just floating around in the ocean.
The bundles of marijuana were found by the coast guard who noticed suspicious activity on a speedboat. When officers approached the speedboat, the crew of the dubious watercraft began to speed away into Mexican waters, presumably dumping the load to lighten the boat’s bulk and essentially avoid arrest.
US law enforcement can’t pursue internationally, so the shady vessel got away, sans reefer.

Brimlo: Limited Fall Drop
November 20th, 2008 by Alex
Fitted cap maker Brimlo tipped us off to their newest, extremely limited, fall release pack. It’s no secret that I’m a hat addict, and I try not to drop them on the site too much, but these materials and styles are definitely different than the run of the mill logo + black 5950 approach.
Plus, Brimlo manufactures their own hats, which only a handful of companies do.
To quote Brimlo themselves:
New Limited Release, Available 11/18 in our online store only. This pack features two new hats and is the smallest run of Brimlo hats ever available to the public. One hat features an Italian wool crown and Japanese silk under brim with cherry blossoms embroidered on it. The second hat is an Italian blend crown with Geisha print under brim. All fabric for this project was hand picked. Only 15 of each were created.
I think the Cherry Blossom cap is calling my name, now I need to go check my bank balance…

Hawaii Police Say MMJ is a Drug Front
November 20th, 2008 by Perry
Hawaiian police recently arrested seven individuals for allegedly running a drug smuggling operation, that law enforcement is saying operated under the guise of a medical marijuana organization.
The leader of the group claims the arrests are the result of a lawsuit he filed against state police. Under Hawaii state law, a physician can recommend marijuana use for a patient with a debilitating disease and allow a patient to have seven marijuana plants and up to three ounces of marijuana.
Brian Murphy filed a lawsuit in order to get money back that was seized by police, cliaming money seized in a raid was collected legally under the state’s law. Police seized 335 marijuana plants, 2,300 grams of processed marijuana, 4,830 grams of unprocessed marijuana, 32 grams of hashish, 100 marijuana-laced candies, and more than $14,000 in cash from several homes and businesses.
Cannabis Linked to Aiding Alzheimer’s Patients
November 20th, 2008 by Perry
Recent experiments have shown cannabis was recently linked to help delay the effects of Alzheimer’s. As reported by The Mail, scientists are working on developing a THC pill, which is helping to fight the disease.
When elderly rats were given the drug for three weeks, it improved their memory, making it easier for them to find their way round a water maze, the Society for Neuroscience’s annual conference heard yesterday (WEDS).
Researcher Professor Gary Wenk said:
When we’re young, we produce neurons and our memory works fine. When we age, the process slows down, so we have a decrease in new cell formation through normal aging. You need these cells to come back and help form new memories and we found that this THC-like agent can influence the creation of these cells.
Gotta say, I never thought I’d see the day where marijuana is used to fight memory loss, but there you go, never failing to surprise me.
Pamela Anderson Speaks Out on Pot
November 19th, 2008 by Perry
Pamela Anderson recently decided to get involved in yet another cause, pro-marijuana activism.
Well known for her love of animals and charitable donations, Anderson recently wrote a letter to Barack Obama and blogged about the importance of legalization. She outlines how cultivating marijuana would “save children” and help the environment.
I think we should legalise marijuana, tax and monitor farm hemp etc. This would make our borders less corrupt and then I think eventually this will be more secure option and save children in the long run – we should be able to farm hemp in America – it’s just silly. It would create jobs and be good for the environment.
Here, here.
She also goes on to show a little more radical side. Pamela also controversially suggests anyone found guilty of molesting children or possessing child pornography, should be castrated for their crimes.
Can’t deny it’d cut down on repeat offenders though. Heyoooooo! I’m sorry.
