Da Bomb Blunts: ‘California Chronic’ Peach

July 31st, 2006 by Alex

Da Bomb Blunts: Peach

Peach is a fine fruit that goes well with any summer day. Turning this flavor into a wrap was a logical step and Da Bomb Blunts has done it successfully. With sweet and aromatic leaves, this blunt can compete with the entire DBB catalogue. The peach scent is spot on and its flavor has been lightly infused with the fruit’s essence. These aspects combine to create one well-rounded experience. All in all, it’s hard to go wrong with this wrap.

Dude, You’ve Got RSS Advertising!

Ok, this should be the first and last time I write about something that is absolutely unrelated to tFS topics (unless you count the Dell stoner), but I can’t help myself.

If you like to read interesting stuff online, then there’s a high chance Boing Boing is in your RSS feed reader. Recently, RSS advertising has been gaining in popularity and Boing Boing has jumped on the ship. Above is an example why this can be dangerous.

First, you’ve got an article explaining how a Dell laptop battery set itself on fire without warning, filled a company office with smoke, and caused the fire department to be called. Directly below it, you’ve got an advertisement for Dell products.

Whoops.

Juicy Jay’s: Fudge

July 28th, 2006 by Alex

Juicy Jay's Fudge

These chocolate temptations come straight to you from Spain. They measure 3″ x 1.75″ and contain 50 leaves per booklet. Juicy Jay’s Fudge papers smell true to their name, but the taste is only reminiscent of fudge, not dead on target. These papers don’t add much taste to your smoke, but they burn evenly and get the job done. Design wise, they are packaged with a brown camouflage pattern and give off a hint of chocolate while smoking. Fudge papers are nice once in a while, but don’t make them a centerpiece of your collection.

Oh So Scientific

What a Scientific Test...

Today I was doing my usual browsing goodness, looking at old and new products, when something caught my attention. Elements Rice Papers (which happen to have the cheesiest tag line ever, but that’s for another day) actually put together a product comparison test to show off how much better their papers burn. Now, I’m all for well thought out and non-biased tests run by a host company, but it never seems to turn out that way.

Most frequently, the companies doing these “comparisons” slant the test to get favorable results. If you pay attention, this one by Elements falls into the slanted category too. Why would you compare thin, rice based papers to any regular old brand? What does this tell me? That papers designed to be thinner are thinner? Way to go guys. Instead, they should run the test against something similar that would actually create an apples to apples comparison. Some good papers to test Elements against would be Smoking King Size - Reds, Eco, or De Luxe.

This graphic and the test behind it are nothing more than eyecandy - looks pretty on the outside but doesn’t mean a damn thing overall.

Spanish: Coconut

July 27th, 2006 by Alex

Spanish: Coconut
Spanish Coconut papers happen to be one of tFS’ favorites. Coconut smells great, tastes great, and smokes great. There really isn’t much more to say about them. The only negative is glue weakness occurs every batch or two, a common condition with the Spanish brand.

These 1 1/2″ papers come with 33 leaves of textured, vanilla colored paper. Once you try them out, Spanish Coconut will become one of your favorites too.

Generic: Double Screen Grinder

July 27th, 2006 by Tim

The Complete Package!
As an owner of a rock-solid Sweetleaf grinder (one of the original, wood-based pieces), I had high hopes for this simple, yet effective piece of machinery. The brandless wonder was a bit lackluster at first, but upon closer examination, it became evident how much grinders have evolved.

This isn’t your GranPappy’s grinder, insisting it’s presence be felt with 5 stainless-steel interlocking discs (top/grinder/1st screen/2nd screen/catcher) and 24 sharp grinding blades. With two separate levels of screens, there’s no doubt that filtration was high on their priority list, leaving you the finest crystals in the bottom chamber. This grinder is capable of fitting ~2.5 grams at a time and has been machined to last for years. By far, the best feature is the magnetized top, so no more clumsy fumbleiahs Mr. Party Foul. A piece like this will run you about $40 at the local headshop, a rock-solid deal.

Brown Sugar: Chocolate Mint

Brown Sugar: Mint Chocolate

With a brown booty on the cover and stinking like a chocolate mint, these papers aim to impress but fall a little short. They measure 3″ x 1.75″ and come with an unknown amount of leaves. The first thing you notice about these is the thickness almost like thin cardboard. They have a grainy texture and burn with earthy harshness, similar to blunt wraps. Mint Chocolate feels solid in your hands while smoking, but due to it’s thickness it tends to char unevenly.

New Image Plants = Business Paradox

July 25th, 2006 by Alex

Fake Buds

In Greenfield, Massachusetts there is a company called New Image Plants that manufactures and sells “realistic looking marijuana & hemp plants made from synthetic polymers”. On the surface, this seems like an innovative business idea that has found a niche in a small to non-existant market. The media can, and does, use all the catch phrases available to describe New Image’s products - Counterfiet Cannabis, Lifelike Botanicals, and more.

Below the surface, there is a paradoxical ideology that should trouble not only the founder of NIP, Joseph White, but also every one of his customers.
